Agent In Charge

Positions in this job are responsible for the coordination and supervision of a variety of investigative and operational functions within the Office of the Inspector General, Criminal Interdiction Unit.

Typical functions include : overseeing the day-to-day supervision of investigative agents assigned to the OIG Criminal Interdiction Division, as well as conducting their own investigations; coordinating departmental investigative efforts with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies; assisting prosecutors in filing charges; ensuring investigative reports are prepared free of grammatical errors; ensuring agents submit criminal cases to the appropriate District Attorney; and ensuring agents attend continuing education training.

This is the Agent-In-Charge level in which the employee supervises and coordinates investigative and operational functions. Incumbents provide direct supervision to lower-level investigative staff, including performing advanced reviews and investigative oversight. Incumbents review and assign investigations of alleged criminal activities in connection with violations of program policy, procedure, or law to section staff.

Knowledge of investigative methods and techniques; the principles and practices of intelligence gathering; law enforcement operations and report-writing; laws concerning the collection and admission of evidence; the laws, rules and regulations governing offenders and correctional operating units; and the principles and practices of management. Skill in use and application of appropriate information technology; interpersonal communications; and leadership and organizational management techniques. Ability to plan, direct and coordinate the operations of the Inspector General's Office; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; make clear and concise decisions during a crisis, while remaining within State and Federal laws, rules, and guidelines; physical fitness necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities; organize and manage projects simultaneously; and analyze complex and security-sensitive situations and implement an appropriate course of action.

Bachelor's degree and six years of experience in criminal investigations, including one year in a supervisory capacity, and CLEET peace officer certification; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education. Requires successful completion of Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs investigator's course. Applicants must possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of appointment in order to perform necessary travel; have and maintain physical and mental stamina adequate to perform the work; be willing to be on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; be willing to travel frequently and be away from home for extended periods of time; be willing to transfer where needed and to accept assignment anywhere in the state; pass a rigid character and background investigation; and be willing to accept the physical discomforts and / or dangers inherent in the work. Applicants will be subject to drug testing. Fugitive Apprehension Agents shall meet the training and screening requirements conducted by the Department and certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training within twelve (12) months of employment. No person who has been convicted of a nonviolent felony or crime involving moral turpitude and who has not received a full pardon from the proper authority, or who has been convicted of any other felony offense, is eligible for employment in this job classification. No person who has received a verdict of guilty or pled guilty or nolo contendere to any offense required to register pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration Act is eligible for employment in this job classification. No person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, who has not been pardoned for, or had the conviction expunged or set aside; or is subject to a court order that restrains the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or the partner's child or engaging in other conduct that would place an intimate partner or the partner's child in reasonable fear of bodily injury and includes a finding that the person is a credible threat; or who has been dishonorably discharged from any branch of the armed services is eligible for employment in this job classification. The Department of Corrections has determined that some positions in this job family are safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. 427.8.
