Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing trauma informed support, advocacy and resources to survivors who have been impacted by sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating or domestic violence and stalking. The RSVP Advocate will assist survivors in scheduling forensic exams, law enforcement / title IX interviews, hearings, with academic and / or housing accommodations and connect the student to campus and community resources. This position will also serve as a member of the on-call advocate crisis response team for the UGA campus. The person in this position will also facilitate prevention programs directed at reducing interpersonal violence on campus.

Responsibilities

Advocacy and Prevention : Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current literature and best practices regarding sexual assault and interpersonal violence. Provide advocacy-based support to students affected by interpersonal violence, including secondary trauma. Serve as point of contact for campus resources and referrals. Provide case management and advocacy through the judicial conduct process at UGA. Train faculty, staff and students in responding to reports of sexual assault or gender-based violence. Act as a navigator for university systems to assist with petition processes as required. Consult on campus policy development related to sexual violence and refer to campus entities such as counseling and health services. Collaborate with campus and community organizations to meet survivors’ needs. Perform other tasks as assigned.

• Outreach and Collaboration : Develop and maintain relationships with campus and community partners. Deliver high-quality education with clarity and empathy. Co-facilitate UMatter upstander intervention trainings and other programs. Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, partners, and students. Serve on relevant committees and task forces. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies

Advocacy & Student Support

Demonstrated skills in group and population-specific interventions. Trauma-informed advocacy approaches. Knowledge of interpersonal violence and victim advocacy. Focus on student well-being and resiliency.

Compliance & Professionalism

Familiarity with confidentiality regulations (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.). Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism. Stay composed in emergencies and high-stress situations. Independent judgment and problem solving.

Interpersonal & Communication

Excellent interpersonal, listening, and written / oral communication skills. Ability to establish rapport in difficult situations. Strong service orientation with focus on student support.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to learn new technologies and use web-based data entry. Knowledge of social media platforms for outreach.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications : UHC Minimum : Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work, Public Health or related degree; 3-5 years experience with sexual assault victims; 3-5 years experience in training and public speaking. UHC Preferred : 40-hour Sexual Assault Advocacy Training; three years of direct social service with knowledge in sexual violence, domestic violence, women’s issues, and working with families in crisis; group facilitation skills; trauma-informed training; experience in higher education settings; case management experience; ability to develop, implement, and evaluate education / outreach initiatives. Primary Schedule : Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm
