Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the work of personnel assigned to specific areas within the Bryan Radiology department. May supervise and be responsible for medical imaging teams such as MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic X-Ray, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Access, and outpatient Radiology teams. Works closely with Radiology physicians and other Radiology Managers to lead cohesive teams.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

1.

  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

  • Establishes procedures and standards of performance for assigned areas within the Radiology department; establishes reporting procedures and types of records to be maintained; compiles statistical data from reports.
  • 3.

  • Consults with physicians regarding services offered by the department; involves the physicians in the planning and design of new services and in the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • 4.

  • Observes personnel in performance of duties to evaluate efficiency, skill, abilities and attitude toward fellow workers and patients for use in determining effectiveness of methods; completes performance evaluations for department personnel.
  • 5. Oversees training of new personnel and provides for staff education to promote understanding and support.

    6. Assists with the development of a long-range strategic business plan for Radiology including addressing equipment replacement, new technology, optimum staffing levels, forecasted procedural volumes, and introduction of new growth technologies.

  • Coordinates construction / remodeling projects as related to equipment replacement, office relocations, etc., with facilities, staff, physicians, vendors, and contractors.
  • 8. Designs and maintains patient satisfaction strategies in coordination with fellow department managers.

  • Garners and enlists the active support of the radiologists, physicists and fellow Radiology managers in maintaining the quality of care and the safety of clinical practice within the department.
  • 10.

  • Submits budgetary, expense, quality assurance and staffing reports and completes any budgetary requests as required.
  • 11.

  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • 12.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations; appropriately advises and counsels hospital management on the relative effects of these laws and regulations.
  • 13.

  • Ensures ongoing compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards.
  • 14.

  • Promotes evidence-based practice; interprets patient, physician, staff and other customer satisfaction results and drives improvement; evaluates occurrences of patient, physician and staff concerns and seeks resolution utilizing supportive organization procedures / methods.
  • 15. Works collaboratively with other department Managers and ensures that meaningful leader / employee rounding is completed according to span of control expectations.

  • Timely, objectively, and constructively coaches staff as appropriate when practice and / or safety issues are observed or reported; ensures appropriate corrective actions are completed for staff when there is a failure to meet job performance expectations.
  • 17.

  • Conducts staff meetings and meets with members of other departments to coordinate activities with those departments; represents the department on designated committees.
  • 18.

  • Establishes and maintains a quality improvement plan for the department.
  • 19.

  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
  • 20. May work as a liaison with Radiation Oncology staff, other department leaders, and physicians to facilitate positive relationships and regulatory compliance between Bryan Medical Center and Cancer Partners of Nebraska

    21. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

    22. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

    23. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    1. Knowledge of the administrative and financial processes utilized within a hospital facility.

    2. Knowledge of all aspects of diagnostic radiology.

    3. Knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.

    4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

    5. If assigned to manage the IR and VAT team, then must have knowledge of all aspects of Interventional Radiology and Vascular Access, and outpatient RN functions.

    6. Knowledge of Radiation Safety practices for self, staff, physicians, and patients.

    7. Ability to develop written policies and procedures, memoranda and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors.

    8. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel and evaluate employee work and performance.

    9. Ability to balance and prioritize diverse management and clinical responsibilities.

    10. Ability to introduce and implement new and improved technologies.

    11. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

    12. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

    13. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

    15. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

    16. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

    17. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    Must have a current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Bachelors degree in Nursing, Business Administration or related field required. Minimum of three (3) years experience in Radiology nursing required.

    OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS :

    Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    (Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

    (DOT) Characterized as sedentary work requiring exertion up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
