Job Summary :

Addressing and reducing disparities in public health are foundational to the work of the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH).

The Latino Public Health Initiative (LPHI), a key strategic priority of the ColoradoSPH Office of the Dean, is dedicated to increasing collaborative partnerships with community-based organizations, academic institutions, state and local leaders, and other collaborators to address the public health disparities facing Colorado's Latino(a) or Latinx communities.

The LPHI aims to advance the work of ColoradoSPH and to support the school's goal of becoming a renowned leader in Latino public health policy, research, and practice.

The Program Director will play a significant leadership role, primarily responsible for offering program guidance, leading research efforts, and directing other aspects of the initiative on behalf of the school.

This appointment requires a commitment of at least 0.2 FTE over 12-months and will be linked to a full-time or part-time faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Sr.

Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor within the ColoradoSPH, any of the University of Colorado Anschutz schools (School of Medicine, College of Nursing, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, or Graduate School), or the University of Colorado Denver (UC Denver) or University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) .

The position is eligible for tenure or non-tenure track faculty, and both external candidates and those interested in a part-time position are welcome to apply.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Lead the administrative and operational activities of the LPHI.
  • Engage with CU Anschutz, UNC, and CSU faculty, staff, and leadership to advance Latino(a) or Latinx public health at ColoradoSPH and within the community.
  • Guide and develop sponsored research projects and community outreach activities that focus on timely issues relevant to Colorado's Latino(a) or Latinx population.
  • Facilitate collaborations among investigators and community organizations interested in sponsored research, service-oriented programs, and fee-for-service strategies to bolster the LPHI's work.
  • Bring together members of the Colorado Latino(a) or Latinx community to enhance best practices in public health research, education, and policy development, and to pinpoint gaps and disparities that ColoradoSPH researchers can address.
  • Mentor, recruit, and nurture researchers, including student researchers, to build a skilled cohort and community of Latino (a) or Latinx -focused scholars.
  • Engage members and constituents of the community in developing a vision, strategic plan, and implementation.
  • Develop and administer bilateral partnerships with international institutions and universities.
  • Implement approaches to grow the research portfolio and practice applications.
  • Supervise the agents and employees of the Initiative.
  • Plan and facilitate new initiatives and activities that promote the Initiative and promote Latino (a) or Latinx public health research and practice.
  • Serve as a resource for students, student organizations, faculty, and staff about Latino (a) or Latinx public health including potential degree seeking students, fee for service opportunities with external organizations, and developing stronger pathway program opportunities with other higher education institutions.
  • Perform other duties pertaining to the office of the Director as requested by the Dean.

The Program Director reports to the Assistant Dean of External Relations at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Supervision Exercised

Depending on the scope of activities, the Program Director may supervise staff engaged in various activities related to Latino public health.

Anticipated Pay Range :

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE :

The FTE is 20% (0.2 FTE). As compensation for serving as Program Director the Office of the Dean will provide 20% salary support (up to the education salary cap of $40,000).

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • A master's degree or equivalent experience in a field relevant to clinical medicine or academic public health.
  • At least 3 years of experience in public health activities.
  • Demonstrated scholarly and public health practice activity in Latino (a) or Latinx health, social determinants of health, or similar field.
  • Successful experience in obtaining grants, contracts, or other funding in public health or other field.
  • An established record of excellence in public health and / or Latino (a) or Latinx health research and demonstrated leadership and / or service;

specifically, accomplishments commensurate with the criteria for appointment at the academic rank of Instructor at the School, another CU Anschutz School / College or CU Boulder or CU Denver equivalent organization.

SR. INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • A master's degree or equivalent experience in a field relevant to clinical medicine or academic public health.
  • At least 4 years of experience in public health activities.
  • Demonstrated scholarly and public health practice activity in Latino (a) or Latinx health, social determinants of health, or similar field.
  • Successful experience in obtaining grants, contracts, or other funding in public health or other field.
  • An established record of excellence in public health and / or Latino (a) or Latinx health research and demonstrated leadership and / or service;

specifically, accomplishments commensurate with the criteria for appointment at the academic rank of Sr. Instructor at the School, another CU Anschutz School / College or CU Boulder or CU Denver equivalent organization.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • A terminal degree in a field relevant to clinical medicine, academic public health or a professional degree with a master's degree in a field relevant to academic public health.
  • At least 5 years of experience in public health activities.
  • Demonstrated scholarly and public health practice activity in Latino (a) or Latinx health, social determinants of health, or similar field.

  • Demonstrated scholarly and practice activity in Latino (a) or Latinx health, social determinants of health, or similar field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in public health activities.
  • Successful experience in obtaining grants and contracts in public health projects.
  • An established record of excellence in public health and / or Latino (a) or Latinx health research and demonstrated leadership and / or service;

specifically, accomplishments commensurate with the criteria for appointment at the academic rank of Associate Professor at the School, another CU Anschutz School / College or CU Boulder or CU Denver equivalent organization.

Demonstrated ability to lead in strategic planning and implementation.

FOR FULL PROFESSOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • A record of scholarly activity (e.g., scholarly publications, national leadership, or consultation in an area of Latino public health, health disparities in underrepresented populations, or public health)
  • A record of extramural peer-reviewed funding.
  • Experience in educational and training activities in Latino (a) or Latinx public health.
  • An established record of accomplishments commensurate with the criteria for appointment at the academic rank of Professor at ColoradoSPH, another CU Anschutz School or UC Denver or equivalent organization.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Evidence of skills and experience in administration and the management of people.
  • Demonstrated success or potential for strong leadership of collaborative public health endeavors.
  • Demonstrated excellence in developing and implementing collaborative programs in Latino public health research or practice.
  • Experience working with health organizations seeking to address social determinants of health and health disparities among underrepresented populations either locally or nationally.
  • Academic or community leadership experience in Latino (a) or Latinx health.
  • A record of obtaining funding for public health or health care activities.
  • Established networks and partnerships relevant to the work of the LPHI.
  • Experience and expertise in program implementation and evaluation.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.

For Full Professor, additional preferred qualifications include :

Experience in developing educational and training initiatives for public health, clinical trainees, and practitioners .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • The ability to work with a diverse community, faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Knowledge of the diverse fields of public health education, research, and practice.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative work in health education, research, or practice.
  • A record of engagement and networking.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in developing funding proposals, including adherence to sponsor guidelines, solicitation requirements, and managing externally sponsored research projects.
  • Experience leading a research team.
  • Proven effective experience in fundraising (grants and gifts), including engaging in development activities.
