Position Overview

The Lead PCR Technician will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) department.

This role involves managing a team of technicians, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of PCR testing, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in PCR techniques, strong leadership skills, and a passion for advancing cannabis testing methodologies.

Essential Job Functions

• Lead and supervise the PCR department, including scheduling, training, and performance management of PCR technicians.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for PCR testing to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Conduct PCR tests on cannabis samples to detect and quantify various analytes, including pathogens and genetic markers.
• Ensure all PCR testing is performed in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and laboratory protocols.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to PCR equipment and procedures.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all PCR testing activities and results.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless workflow and communication.
• Stay current with advancements in PCR technology and cannabis testing methodologies.
• Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked with necessary reagents, supplies, and equipment for PCR testing.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality control (QA / QC) programs to maintain the highest standards of testing accuracy and reliability.

What we are looking for :

• Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
• Strong understanding of PCR techniques, equipment, and troubleshooting.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for cannabis testing is a plus.
• Training in laboratory best practices, laboratory activities and associated equipment, ISO / IEC 17025 : 2017, and basic laboratory safety preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in PCR testing, preferably in a cannabis or related laboratory setting.
