MISSION : Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, The Shirley Rodriguez-Remeneski School ( BGLIG, pronounced Big League) will provide an exceptional education to young girls through dual language instruction in a technology-rich environment, while building on cultural heritage to foster leadership characteristics and strong values, promote self-confidence and create global leaders.

Through highly motivated and accomplished teachers, our students will receive a standards-based, research-proven, technology-infused curriculum focusing on core subjects that will create a strong foundation for life-long learning.

Position Overview

At Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, Art Teachers understand and promote the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community.

The Art Teacher is responsible for providing an instructional program that supports the individual needs of all children in a dual language setting, in accordance with the school’s mission and values established by its charter.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO) :

Instructional Planning & Delivery

  • Use the state standards and curriculum to create a rigorous and objective-driven arts program
  • Use technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication and ensure student engagement
  • Eagerly learn new uses and applications of technology tools
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create interdisciplinary units that teach grade level content knowledge and skills through the arts
  • Promote students self-expression and exploration while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design and art history
  • Incorporate art history in ways that are engaging and meaningful to students and objectives
  • Measure student achievement and progress towards learning objectives using the school’s formative and summative assessment tools
  • Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving goal
  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues and administrators

Establish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of portfolio

Student Support & School Culture

  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and with BGLIG families
  • Support the dual language program by making connections between English and Spanish language instruction, creating dual language projects and instructional opportunities, and supporting all students as language learners.
  • Establish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of portfolios.
  • Develop and use rubrics for evaluating student products and performances.
  • Work closely with all members of the school community, model citizenship, collaboration and support of one another.

Qualifications

  • Alignment to BGLIG’s core values and mission.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree in the field of education preferred.
  • NYS teaching certification required.
  • Experience in a high performing charter or district school preferred but not required.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
