Summary :
Under the general supervision of the site principal, the Career Specialist will assist teachers in providing classroom Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) instruction to students in grades TK-6.
The goal of an effective VAPA Career Specialist is to develop in each student an interest in and ability to express himself / herself creatively in the arts, and utilize skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the student's interests and abilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Develop, prepare present, and coordinate classroom VAPA lessons.
- Provide assistance in developing a school-wide VAPA instruction schedule.
- Coordinate school-wide VAPA projects and programs.
- Plan and present school VAPA displays and exhibits.
- Instruct pupils in proper care and use of VAPA materials.
- Organize storage areas and control the use of materials to prevent loss or abuse.
- Provide input to staff regarding pupil progress in the area of VAP.
- Help maintain a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
- Performs other duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

Education and Experience :
- High School diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's Degree in Art or related field
- A background working with elementary students is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates :
Requires a valid driver's license.

Salary and Terms of Service :
Salary range (66) $37.39 - $45.99 per hour, eight (8) steps, seven (7) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F). Holidays, sick leave and vacation benefits.
