JOB DESCRIPTION
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING OR ENGINEER GRADUATE
Your New Role
As an experienced engineer-in-training (EIT) or engineer graduate, you perform a variety of routine engineering tasks to support the design of electrical systems (power, lighting, fire alarm and low voltage) for building construction.
You support assigned engineers and project team members by performing electrical design and analysis calculations, generate drawings and other technical duties under minimal supervision.
You also compile technical data from drawings, field notes and / or electronic data as well as coordinate with other internal disciplines and external consultants as required.
The complexity of projects assigned, responsibility assumed and degree of supervision necessary will change as you continue to gain experience.
In addition, you may lead routine projects of limited scope.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Lead or partake in project design efforts to complete design and ensuring conformance to quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Determine Design Criteria using relevant codes and standards.
- Model existing buildings based on existing documentation.
- Develop, prepare and / or review engineering plans, designs, reports or studies to identify engineering solutions under the supervision of a Professional Engineer (PE).
Review shop drawings, RFIs and vendor documents as needed.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplined teams to produce and coordinate construction drawings using Revit, AutoCAD and other project materials.
- Attend project meetings, jobsite visits and / or conduct on-site investigations / assessments of existing buildings as required for projects;
all of which may require occasional overnight travel.
- May perform technician level duties under the direction of an experienced employee.
- Develop an understanding of quality of work with the ability to minimize risk. Routinely self-checks own work for completeness and accuracy.
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may be required to ensure client project delivery and company operations.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline required.
- 2+ years' experience working as an electrical EIT is preferred. Candidates may hold either an EIT or Engineering Intern (EI) certification.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Revit, AutoCAD and current electrical engineering software (e.g., Visual Lighting, AGI 32, SKM Power*Tools).
MicroStation is a plus. Ability to maintain skill levels within the changing technology environment.
Ability to navigate and apply national, state and local codes along with industry standards (e.g., American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning-ASHRAE, International Energy Conservation Code- IECC, National Fire Protection Association-NFPA, etc.
to overall project and individual system designs.
- Organized and able to work on several projects, a multitasker and comfortable working independently and effectively in a team environment to deliver projects.
- Positive and professional attitude with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with co-workers and clients in person or virtually.
- Commitment to complete The Principals and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam within a dedicated time frame. Candidates will be expected to obtain their PE license for career progression.
- The applicant is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident with a valid Green Card.
