Overview

UnityPoint Health is actively recruiting for an Oncology APP to join our team in Des Moines, IA. We are seeking a highly motivated and clinically focused Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Hematology / Oncology team. This position is designed to fully leverage the training, expertise, and scope of practice of APPs, offering a meaningful opportunity to provide advanced care across the continuum of hematologic and oncologic diseases.

This position offers full engagement in medical decision-making, procedural care, and longitudinal patient management in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. APPs will provide clinical care for a variety of hematologic and oncologic conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical acumen, a passion for oncology, and a commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care.

John Stoddard Cancer Center , a service of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, is among the top achieving cancer programs in the nation and has been recognized for its quality cancer care. We have been a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program for over 45 years. We are also a Breast Cancer Center and Clinical Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Center of Excellence. This is a result of decades of research, cancer treatment experience and cancer care technology.  We have one of the most technologically advanced and diverse radiation oncology departments in the Midwest. Patients and their families have access to a wide range of services that were created to provide them with comprehensive and compassionate care including oncology navigators, patient support groups, nutritional support, survivorship, genetic counseling, and wellness programs. Responsibilities

The Role

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history and physical examinations

Formulate differential diagnoses and develop evidence-based treatment plans.

Order, interpret, and act on laboratory and diagnostic results

Perform minor procedures such as skin biopsies, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and intrathecal chemotherapy administration

Manage treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusions, and supportive care

Monitor patient tolerance of treatment, making adjustments as needed

Provide follow-up care for patients in outpatient clinics

Collaborate with physicians, consultants, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care

Participate in rounds, tumor boards, clinical conferences, and research activities

Educate patients and their families on diagnoses and treatment plans

Document patient interactions, interventions, and care plans in the EMR

Precept and educate PA / NP students as appropriate

Rotate through weekend and after-hours call coverage as scheduled

Adhere to institutional protocols, scope of practice, and regulatory guidelines

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Board Certified

Prior experience in Oncology

Oncology certification preferred

Hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of IA

Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the Advanced Practitioners field of practice

Eligible to work in the United States
