JOB SUMMARY :
Irondale is in search of a caring Senior Citizen Center Director. The individual will be tasked with the development and execution of recreational activities and the nutrition program for the center's senior patrons.
Responsibilities include managing the nutrition program, formulating and overseeing the departmental budget, and leading staff to maintain a secure and functional setting.
Additionally, the role involves engaging with media to publicize the center's events, participating on different boards, and preparing reports for various organizations outlining the center's operations.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for employment in this position, a candidate possess the following :
Driver's license.
Experience organizing a variety of leisure, recreation, or community events / activities (e.g., organizing travel events, various classes, event planning).
Experience conducting recreation activities (e.g., teaching classes, selecting licensed instructors, organizing volunteers).
Experience making budget recommendations and monitoring financial resources.
Preferred Qualifications :
Certified in CPR and First Aid.
Food Handlers Permit.
Job Duties :
Typical job duties include, but are not necessarily limited to :
Conducts various administrative responsibilities including report writing, serving on various boards, speaking with the media, monitoring general facility maintenance, and monitoring local, state, and federal guidelines as they pertain to Center activities.
Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
Plans, schedules, and manages the nutrition program for senior citizens and oversees its operation and maintenance.
Plans, develops, and coordinates special activities and programs for the facility by gauging the interest of community members, working with Center staff, and identifying needs or areas of improvement for Center activities and programs.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and / or training.
Plans, coordinates, and travels with senior citizens on special overnight and multi-day trips.

Critical Knowledges :
Knowledge of budgetary principles and procedures, and encumbrances / expenditures such as revenues, expenditures, and appropriations involved in establishing and maintaining budgets.
Knowledge of principles involved in the management of staff / personnel.
Knowledge of health and wellness programs / activities (e.g., health and fitness newsletters, good health intervention classes, fitness related events).
Knowledge of the necessary methods and techniques of planning recreation programs and activities.
Knowledge of various sports, games, and recreational activities suitable for individuals within various age groups.
Knowledge of the Jefferson County Department of Health food safety regulations (e.g., food temperature guidelines, food disposal, etc.).
Work Environment :
Work is performed primarily in employer-owned facilities such as community civic centers, recreation centers, etc. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
Physical Demands :
Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
