- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1 : 4, averaging 1 : 5, with up to 1 : 6 on rare occasions.- Care for a diverse patient group from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, CHF, COPD, post-surgical conditions (hysterectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy), elevated bilirubin in infants, asthma exacerbation, and rehabilitation patients.
- RNs may rarely be required to titrate drips; common drips include insulin and antibiotics.- Charge nurses may take a 1 : 2 assignment occasionally, and travelers with charge experience may fill in if needed.
- Supported by nurse aides / patient care techs on a 1 : 10 ratio.- Utilize RT equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and occasional high flow;
ventilators are not used.- Remote telemetry tech support is available; RN ability to read strips is preferred.- Shift schedule : 12 hours, 7 PM to 7 AM, with flexibility for shift swaps.
- Weekend shifts required, minimum of 5 per 6-week schedule period; may include nights on Fridays and Saturdays or days on Saturdays or Sundays.
- Holiday shifts may be required based on needs; no on-call or standby requirements.- Possibility of floating to L&D or ED for supportive tasks.
- Scrub colors / patterns flexible; scrubs provided but not mandatory.- Two 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts with a preceptor.
- Facility adheres to a radius rule of 50 miles for candidate selection.- Uses Epic Systems Corporation - EpicCare Inpatient EMR for charting.
