Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory / Technical Assistant (Research Assistant).
Reporting to the Principal Investigator of the Child Study Center (CSC), this Laboratory / Technical Assistant coordinates various cognitive neuroscience studies for the laboratory.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following :
- Coordinates the organization of the daily operations of the laboratory.
- Coordinates, directs, and monitors the efforts of undergraduate research assistants.
- Coordinates participant recruitment.
- Provides research support preparing manuscripts and gathering reference information and literature.
- Collects, sorts, processes sample, performs preliminary analysis, and analyzes data.
- Performs general administrative duties in the laboratory, including record keeping.
This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding. Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week 40 Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.
3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.
3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date.
Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific / technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and / or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

Equipment Utilized
Uses Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS statistical software, and knows or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of the position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Laboratory environment.
- Requires interaction with children of all ages, parents, undergraduate students, and community members.
- All work must be in compliance with all University and external processes, policies, and regulations for safety and human subject research and participant recruitment.
- Must complete all relevant training.
