Who You'll Work With
You will be based in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Toronto or Washington, DC as part of our Capital Analytics Client Capabilities Network which is part of our broader Capital Excellence Service Line.
Capital Analytics provides distinctive analysis, insights, and support to major capital projects across sectors. We offer services including estimate and schedule validation, benchmarking, diligence, and readiness reviews.
Our dedicated specialists apply proprietary tools and methodologies and a data-driven approach.
Our aim is to embed deep capital analytics into all our engagements and help cement Capital Excellence service across industries.
Your impact within our firm
You will work in teams as a specialist practitioner to solve pressing and complex issues at clients through deploying analytical tools, as well as support the development of new proprietary tools, benchmarking databases and market perspectives.
In this role, you will often work in teams of typically 3-5 consultants, playing an active role in client engagements. This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses and developing communication and recommendations.
You'll also present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members.
You'll also focus on building and scaling analytical solutions used for engagement across portfolio optimization, project development and value improvement, project execution, cost and schedule diagnostic.
You will also prepare detailed cost estimates and budget forecasts for large-scale capital projects using advanced software tools and internal proprietary databases.
You will contribute to McKinsey's industry knowledge by staying up to date with the latest in the capital projects industry and you will contribute to proprietary models and analyses.
This includes gathering the information necessary to develop these tools and synthesize your findings into McKinsey formatted products.
These products may be in the form of complex models and summary reports which evolve into standalone presentations that outline key findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences.

Your qualifications and skills
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering or construction science
- 2+ years of experience on major capital projects for either an owner or contractor, ideally in a project management or project controls role
- Background in consulting, strategy and / or research is a plus
- Modeling capability using Excel and experience managing large datasets with databases
- Distinctive analytical and quantitative skills
- Proven record of leadership in a work setting and / or through extracurricular activities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively - both verbally and in writing
- Experience with AspenTech estimator tool is a bonus

For new joiners for this role in Canada and / or the United States, including all office locations where the job may be performed, a reasonable estimated range is $110,000 - $112,700 in USD and $114,000 - $118,500 in CAD - to help you understand what you can expect.
This reflects our best estimate of the lowest to highest salary for this role at the time of this posting, ensuring you have a clear picture right from the start, though it's important to remember that actual salaries may vary.
Factors like your office location, your unique blend of experience and skills, start date and our current organizational needs all play a part in determining the final figure.
Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to McKinsey's discretion and based on factors such as individual and / or organizational performance.
