About the team : Compass’ SF HOME C-HOME team helps homeless families stabilize and maintain housing through temporary rental subsidies.
All families are provided with long-term case management to support housing and economic self-sufficiency.
Reports to : Program Director, C-HOME
Schedule : Monday - Friday, primarily during standard business hours
Compensation : $66K - $75K annually
Location : 1061 Market St., San Francisco. Fully in-person (not hybrid or remote)

Responsibilities :
The Assistant Program Director is responsible for developing and overseeing programs, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with funding contracts, and supporting the Program Director in managing the C-HOME team.
Specific responsibilities include :
- Directly supervise a team of Case Managers responsible for helping families approved for rental assistance build long-term stability in housing.
- Ensure that we are providing appropriate services to clients, staying on track towards meeting outcomes, and representing the program in the community.
- Review and approve all referrals for the program, including confirming client eligibility, confirming that file is complete and accurate, and making decisions on difficult cases in accordance with program policy.
- Track monthly expenditures against budget and make sure that funds are spent responsibly and appropriately throughout the year.
- Track and report outcomes for the program, and prepare grant and contract applications.
- Work directly with finance to submit check requests and process Utility Allowance payments to PG&E.
- Develop relationships with funders and other key stakeholders. Attend relevant meetings to represent Compass’ interests and weigh in on relevant city policies.
- Collaborate with the Program Director on staff hiring and training.
- Function as acting director during Program Director’s vacation and sick leave.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Valid CA driver’s license and ability to be approved as a Zipcar driver required.
- At least 2 years of experience working in social services with homeless families or at risk populations.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience, including proven ability to oversee major projects or programs, track multiple work streams, and oversee the work of others.
- Deep understanding of trauma-informed care and of the challenges that homeless families face.
- Ability to provide support in a crisis, and to de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
- Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
- Outstanding work habits : punctual, reliable, cooperative, team-oriented.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
Compensation and Benefits :
- Salary range : $66,000 - $75,000 depending on experience.
- Paid time off : 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.
- Insurance : health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
- Retirement : after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account;
this vests during years 2-5.
Location and Covid safety :
- Fully in-person, either at our office at 1061 Grove St. or in the community.
- Covid vaccination required for all staff.
