edu Position Details Job Summary The College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics seeks an experienced Cybersecurity Network Administrator to work in the Cybersecurity program.

This specialized academic unit is within the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering department, located at the Catalyst Building, 601 E. Riverside, Spokane, WA.

The mission of the Cybersecurity program and CSEE department is to educate students and support research and scholarship activities.

This position reports to the Director of the Cybersecurity program, an appointed faculty member.

The Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department Cybersecurity Specialist will identify and address vulnerabilities in computer systems.

Provide end-user support and perform system administration for the faculty and students of the CSEE department and Cybersecurity program.

They will design, acquire, install, and maintain the CSEE department and Cybersecurity program’s servers, systems, and networking infrastructure including desktop and laptop computer equipment;

program-specific applications; technology-equipped cybersecurity laboratories; and online services. The position will work closely with the Cybersecurity program director, other CSEE department and Cybersecurity program staff, and university Information Technology department to perform required duties.

The person hired for this position must have demonstrated experience and / or ability to perform the following essential functions :

The salary for this position is $85,764 (minimum) up to $99,444. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills.

The department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Cybersecurity Program are located in the Catalyst Building located between down Spokane and the University District.

Occasional visits to Eastern’s Cheney campus may be needed.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value;

as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16.

The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science degree in cybersecurity, informational technology, computer science or closely related discipline or equivalent work-related experience.
  • 4 years of system administrator level experience as part of a large, multi-server environment with demonstrable knowledge and skills that includes designing, engineering, implementing, and maintaining Windows and Linux operating systems, high availability clusters, and configuration management.
  • 3 years managing projects or solving issues independently.
  • 1 year experience implementing, managing, and administering complex infrastructure and services.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer science and information systems.
  • Demonstrated abilities in each of the following areas : Working independentlyPrioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environmentProblem-solving and critical thinking skillsEffectively communicate in both spoken and written form to a diverse audience, both technical and non-technical

  • Development of threat prevention strategies.· Install, upgrade, patch, troubleshoot, resolve issues, and provide design support for CSEE department and Cybersecurity program infrastructure and select applications.
  • Design and build server operating environments to meet CSEE department and Cybersecurity program requirements.· Deploy and maintain required support software and utilities.
  • Ensure that the server and desktop environments are kept up to date with security and critical patches in conjunction with university IT and state requirements.
  • Troubleshoot systems to resolve problems, analyze and correct system malfunctions using tools such as tcpdump or Wireshark.
  • Use appropriate troubleshooting methodologies identify cause of networking problems and implement solutions.· Resolve unexpected server and networking issues using all available tools and resources.
  • Evaluate, improve, and maintain information technology security throughout the CSEE department and Cybersecurity program’s infrastructure.

Maintain compliance with the university’s information security policy and actively collaborate with the university’s Chief Information Security Officer.

Follow standard change control procedures for all changes to production systems and follow standard development / test / production promotion of changes including user testing.

Document the CSEE department and Cybersecurity infrastructure (physical and virtual) including system configuration, software installations, networking configuration and break-fix processes with the objective of providing repeatability and business continuity.
