Job Description
UMMC Midtown Campus THRIVE Program and University of Maryland OPAT (Outpatient Parental Antimicrobial Therapy) program are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to work in a busy academic outpatient practice that specializes in the care of patients with HIV / AIDS, Hepatitis, and other Infectious Diseases.
A professional nurse in this setting provides direct care and care coordination for an assigned group of patients on his / her care team.
THRIVE / OPAT nurses work in partnership with a multi-disciplinary group of physicians, advanced practice providers, social work, pharmacists, medical assistants and administrative staff to provide compassionate and comprehensive care for our vulnerable population.
Nurses utilize the nursing process in the delivery of care to prioritize patient needs. Services include but are not limited to care coordination and navigation services, in person and telephone education triage of patients, monitoring of patients post initiation of specialty medications, discharge follow-up calls and assessment, medication administration including ambulatory infusion therapy, patient education and participation in program-based activities.
THRIVE nurses are essential to improving chronic disease outcomes and reducing hospital utilization and readmissions for our patients.
This RN will have an intricate role to the THRIVE's OPAT program. The OPAT RN performs an important care coordination role in the critical transition of care from the hospitalized inpatient to ambulatory outpatient follow up for patients.
As part of OPAT, the nurse may be required to do prehospital discharge assessment and education of patients, management of active lists of patients who are on parental antimicrobial therapy, lab tracking, IV-line insertion, central line manipulation and dressing changes.
Program activities also include communication with providers at all levels of care, participation in multidisciplinary rounds.

Qualifications
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
BSN preferred. Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
- One year nursing experience. Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
- RN experience in an ambulatory or outpatient setting a plus.
- Current BLS certification required.
