JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department : Public Health Sciences, in Hershey, PA, reporting to Abebayehu N. Yilma (PhD, MPH), PI for Institute of Energy and the Environment (IEE) Seed grant for a project in Ghana, is seeking a Part time Research Assistant.
Position Summary : The Research Assistant (RA) will support faculty-led research projects within the Department of Public Health Sciences.
The role involves a blend of academic research, data analysis, and administrative tasks to ensure the successful execution and completion of research projects.
This position is ideal for a graduate student seeking to gain hands-on experience in research methodologies and project management within field of public health.
The research project is studying how climate change affects Ebola spread in Ghana and assessing healthcare workers' and community members' knowledge and attitudes to improve preparedness and prevention strategies.
Key Responsibilities :
Research Support :
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize relevant research materials.
- Assist in the design and execution of the study.
- Organize and analyze data using appropriate methodologies and tools.
- Develop and maintain databases related to the research projects.
Data Management :
- Ensure the accurate and secure storage of research data.
- Utilize software and tools for data analysis (e.g., REDCaP, SPSS, SAS STATA).
- Interpret and summarize research findings for reports and publications.
Writing and Reporting :
- Draft research reports, abstracts, and manuscripts for publication.
- Prepare presentations and posters for conferences and academic meetings.
- Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and progress reports.
Administrative Support :
- Coordinate project-related meetings with international partner, including scheduling and agenda preparation.
- Assist in the management of project budgets and resources.
- Maintain clear and organized records of project activities and documentation.
Collaboration and Communication :
- Work collaboratively with PI and Co-PIs and international partners
- Communicate research progress and findings to the PI, Co-PI and collaborative partners in Ghana.
- Participate in regular team meetings
Professional Development :
- Engage in continuous learning and development related to research methodologies and subject matter expertise.
- Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences relevant to climate change and public health.
Qualifications :
- Education : Enrolled in a graduate program in College of Medicine Pennsylvania State University with a focus on public health Sciences.
- Experience : Previous research experience preferred but not required.
- Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in statistical analysis software and research tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge : Familiarity with research methodologies and ethical guidelines in research.
Working Conditions :
- The RA works hours a week in Fall 4 & Spring 5.
- Project duration : Start August , 4, and end June , 5.
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
- The RA may work in various settings including virtual as required by the research project.
