Registered Nurses (RNs) serve as an integral part of Arapahoe County's Public Health Department, providing nursing care and services at clinics, home visits, and community outreach events with a focus on promoting health and disease prevention.

This position will support the ACPH sexual health program to provide non-judgmental sexual health care to all genders, including birth control, STI testing and treatment, and cervical and breast cancer screening and prevention services.

Sexual Health nurses work at our clinical locations in Englewood and Aurora and provide services on our mobile unit, at community-based clinics, and in the patient's home through our Field Delivered Treatment for Syphilis program.

NOTE : This position is eligible but not guaranteed for possible career progression in the future as outlined below : * The salary range for a Registered Nurse is $2,407.

79 to $3,611.71 biweekly.* The salary range for a Senior RN is $2,804.18 to $4,479.44 biweekly.Registered NursePerforms duties within programs such as : * NLP : Nurse Liaison Programs* NFP : Nurse Family Partnership* Sexual Health / Harm Reduction* ImmunizationsDirect Patient Care* Provides safe, effective, evidence-based patient care, including clear, accurate documentation, and referrals.

Uses critical thinking skills and nursing expertise to effectively assess patients and care for their health.* Performs direct patient care during home visits, clinic visits, or at outdoor community clinics, fairs, and outreach events.

  • Maintains medical expertise, skills, and abilities to follow established processes and guidelines aligning with evidence-based care practices.
  • Collaborates with team members to provide resources and care / treatment options within the patient care setting. Escalates patient care situations as appropriate or necessary.
  • Documents patient cases and complies with timely documentation standard for patients and employees.Community Outreach* As stipulated by grant deliverables, actively participates, and provides patient care and consultation via community outreach at indoor and outdoor clinics, events, and fairs.
  • Some regular work and emergency response work requires evening and weekend hours.* Collaborates with community members, such as school personnel, childcare, and providers to form partnerships and relationships that improve community health outcomes.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.Senior RN* Serves in a Lead capacity while performing Registered Nurse duties* May provide program leadership to professional and support positions and on-site supervision of the day-to-day activities of assigned programs.

Lead accountability includes performing and delegatingnursing tasks, interpreting program policy and procedures for staff, and working on special projects as assigned.

Assists personnel with technical expertise in providing public health services in compliance with policy, procedures, and program protocols adopted by ACPH.

Assists Public Health Nurses with resolving complex and difficult issues and situations.* Serves as a liaison between the Public Health Nurses and program leadership for to day-to-day program operations.

Assists in evaluation and implementation of nursing programs; makes recommendations to administration concerning planning activities.

Recommends program policy and procedure through the supervisor to the manager for review, approval and implementation.* Coordinates the organization, assignment, and utilization of nursing personnel with adjacent program areas to facilitate staffing coverage for collateral programs and services.

  • Instructs staff in the methods, techniques and procedures utilized in assigned programs and services.Emergency Preparedness and Response* Activated in the event of a public health emergency* Completes sample collection (blood draws and / or skin, nose, and throat swabs) as needed for communicable / infectious diseases* Completes home, hospital, off-site visits for urgent vaccine and IG administration as needed.
  • Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required. Completes trainings identified as appropriate for this level employee and initiates corrective actions and responses pursuant to Federal, State, and Local laws, statutes, and regulations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : * Work is primarily conducted in clinic and community settings, with travel to other locations or outside agencies to provide program services or attend meetings.

  • In the course of traveling to and working in other locations, may experience exposure to noise, dust, solvents, fumes, smoke or gases, slippery / uneven walking surfaces, sun, road hazards, traffic considerations, motor vehicle accidents, and exposure to inclement weather such as driving in snow, ice, etc.

Potential for exposure to community related crimes while on duty.

  • High possibility of exposure to air / blood borne pathogens, insects, vermin, and other household and nature animals, as a result of contact with the public, in community-based environments.
  • Potential exposure to high risk and emergent situations i.e. Client with suicidal ideation, child abuse or domestic violence situations, aggressive clients / family members / pets.
  • At high risk for compassion fatigue secondary to provision of care for high risk, complex clients and family situations.

Frequent exposure to highly intense emotional situations such as client disclosures of current or past intimate partner violence, child abuse, or other traumas, potential exposure to situations of infant mortality / infant or fetal loss, etc.
