About The Position

Job Title : PCU RN

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

License : BSN Required

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Must-Have : Candidates must not be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any associated facility.

Description :

Unit Notes : Department : Stepdown

Certifications Required : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Fingernail Policy : Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care.

Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract.

Driver's license required.

RN's must pass a mandatory exam during orientation.

This is an open book exam based on skills learned.

Candidates are given all necessary resources to pass.

A score of 90% is required to pass or termination may occur.

Unit consists of 33 beds.

Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 4-5.

Common diagnoses / Types of patients include :

Young adults through geriatrics, sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, DKA,

Patients with complex medical issues including multisystem failure.

RNs are required to titrate drips.

Common titratable and / set rate drips include :

  • Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, Insulin;

Maintenance doses of IV medications (non-titratable).

A charge nurse is present on each shift; they do take an assignment.

CNAs are available with a 1 : 10 ratio; availability may fluctuate based on unit census.

RT Equipment includes : BiPAP, Airvo.

Tele / Monitor Techs are present; RNs must read and interpret their own strips.

Shifts are scheduled from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700.

Unit schedulers will create the traveler’s schedule.

Weekend Requirements : Every other weekend.

Holiday Requirements : As needed to meet unit needs.

Floating Requirements : May float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care.

Scrub Color / Dress Code for RNs is Navy Blue.

Number of shifts for unit-specific orientation : First week classroom followed by 2-12 hour shifts on the floor.

Additional Notes : Busy patient flow with admitting and discharging occurring within the same 6-hour time frame.

Attributes that contribute to success on this unit include a strong sense of teamwork, a friendly, positive attitude, engagement in positive patient experiences, commitment to bedside report, and hourly rounding.

RTO needed upfront (7 or less days).

Additional RTO will not be approved after submissions.

Cancellation Policy : Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.

Charting System : EPIC.
