THE POSITION
The Engineering, Traffic and Survey Division of the Land Use & Transportation Department is recruiting for a Senior Engineer.
The Senior Engineer is responsible for preparing and stamping plans for maintenance and / or capital projects related to transportation infrastructure and assets.
This position will supervise and manage a small group of professional and technical staff who are also tasked with designing road and bridge projects;
assign daily work and monitor work progress; evaluate work in progress and provide training and technical assistance. The Senior Engineer will assist with updating and maintaining road design and construction standards for Washington County.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate possesses a balanced combination of supervisory experience, transportation design experience, construction experience, and project delivery experience.
The candidate is familiar with the design and construction of transportation infrastructure including but not limited to, roads and / or bridges, understanding of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and other applicable state and federal statutes and standards.
The candidate has experience communicating with the public, and working for or with a public agency. The candidate is an effective communicator on both technical and non-technical topics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master's Degree in civil engineering, construction engineering management, surveying, or closely related field; AND Four (4) years of transportation-related experience applying civil engineering theory, principles, and methods with an emphasis on maintenance, plan preparation and review, road and bridge construction, and / or design; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, construction engineering management, surveying, or closely related field; AND Six (6) years of transportation-related experience applying civil engineering theory, principles, and methods with an emphasis on maintenance, plan preparation and review, road and bridge construction, and / or design.
One (1) year of this experience must have included team coordination or leadership.
ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
- Registration as a professional civil engineer with license to practice in the state of Oregon within six (6) months of appointment.
