Position Summary

TMMG is seeking a full-time Electrical Design Group Manager responsible for day-to-day supervision in the design and design integration of commercial ship programs. The Electrical Design Group Manager will supervise an engineering group in the development of the detailed design of all electrical components and specifications of various types of vessels, marine crafts, and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs. The Electrical Engineer Design Group Manager will identify and execute the tasks necessary to complete contract-specific electrical engineering and design. Such work will require interaction with experienced engineers within the department, Procurement, and other engineering disciplines, as well as with Project Management. Research and analysis functions may include project evaluation and monitoring, the ability to produce and analyze calculations, ensuring compliance with Class, Statutory and Government regulations, and performing data analyses relevant to project tasks. Additional duties for the Electrical Design Group Manager will include scoping change, determining the impact to design documentation, creating, or editing design drawings using AutoCAD, spreadsheet data entry, tracking, maintenance, calculations, etc., with limited to no guidance from other experienced electrical engineers within the department.

Electrical Design Group Manager .

• Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Responsible for producing electrical system designs in a 2D and 3D software environment.
• Interpret contract, class, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare estimates as required.
• Review documents, diagrams, and analyses
• Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables are submitted in accordance with the Contract requirements.
• Develop Technical Specifications to assist the Purchasing Department in the development of Purchase Specifications
• Review Vendor proposals / submittals against Technical Specifications to determine compliance.
• Produce detailed plans of action and deficiency reports to support the project objectives and schedules.
• Assist the Production Planning Department with construction planning support activities.
• Assist Production as questions concerning design documentation to arise and work closely with shipyard personnel.
• Mentor and provide performance-related feedback for less-experienced electrical engineers to the department manager, up to and including individual performance evaluations.
• Prepare schedules for undertaking the assigned engineering work.
• Supervise and lead a group of designers, drafters, and engineers in the electrical group, assigning tasks per schedule, and production needs and maintaining close tracks of hours used per assigned budget.
• Supervise the proper development of contract change documents to support project needs.
• Apply standard design principles and theories to complete assignments.
• Create and develop production / fabrication drawings for all electrical products.
• Responsible for identifying dimensions, cableways, equipment, and materials in the production drawings.
• Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
• Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
• Make required changes, additions, and / or revisions, as directed by the immediate supervisor.
• Preparation of drawings for class approval.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Electrical Design Group Manager - Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly and / or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Electrical Group. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
