A DAY IN THE LIFE

Our Senior Engineer, Geologist or Scientist / Project Manager directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organizing, controlling, integrating, and completing projects within the area of assigned responsibility.

The candidate is an experienced Project Manager and is responsible for working with a project team to manage risk, meet project profitability goals, and manage both the internal team performance and client expectations.

The focus of the projects will be in New Jersey and therefore, requires that the candidate be a New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) with a comprehensive grasp of all applicable New Jersey laws and regulations Site Remediation Reform Action, Administrative Requirement for Remediation of Contaminated Sites and Technical Requirements for the Remediation of Contaminated Sites).

As a key member of the team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including :

This position will work on environmental projects for federal, commercial, and private clients with an emphasis on New Jersey-specific projects.

This position will conduct preliminary assessments, comprehensive site investigations, remedial investigations, implement remedial actions, and issue Response Action Outcomes (RAO).

Plans multiple projects simultaneously including being the senior technical lead on a project, and supervising scientists, technicians, and CAD professionals.

Responsible for estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting, and ensuring consistent application of firm standards.

Coordinates the day-to-day operations of technical staff assigned to projects by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts, and providing technical guidance.

Oversees development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations logically and professionally.

Consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.

Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Is responsible for project scope of work, schedule budget and hours, and utilizes time effectively to complete tasks within the assigned timeframe(s).

Acts as a client manager to understand customer needs and distributes work assignments and proposals to appropriate teams.

Communicates to leadership when potential issues are foreseen, or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget.

Oversees project setup and authorization paperwork to include project authorizations, contracts, subcontracts, purchase order requests, and project schedules.

Oversees project financial management duties including project projections, project invoicing, subcontractor invoice approvals, progress reporting, and project / subcontractor contract compliance.

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Exercise safe work practices by following all Montrose safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.

Participate in Montrose’s continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.

Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.

Perform other duties as assigned.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology or applicable Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Studies).

10 or more years of related experience in project management and people leadership.

NJDEP LSRP in good standing

Comprehensive knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying NJDEP regulations and site remediation.

Technical background in conducting preliminary and comprehensive assessments, remedial investigations, implementing remedial actions and closing projects.

Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of computer-aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.

Organizational skills and attention to detail.

This position can be physically demanding and will require work in various working environments / conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on various terrain and potentially in inclement weather.

Work environment will vary greatly depending on the nature of assigned tasks.

The position may involve local travel as needed.
