Director of Construction Metronet

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Director of Construction is responsible for the success of their assigned project(s) and team(s). The Director of Construction will have override responsibility for the success of several projects and construction teams.

They will oversee the Manager(s) of Construction who have responsibility for the project budget, meeting project timelines, customer expectations, managing the construction teams, and interfacing with customers.

The Director of Construction may have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the company’s Construction Managers.

If so assigned, they will manage daily activities supporting all construction work to include, but not limited to, construction of Commercial, Residential, MDU Inside Wiring and Forced Relocation driven projects.

The Director of Construction will be responsible for resolving significant issues, delays in approvals, authorities, and other obstacles that hinder progress on their assigned projects.

Their job is to train, develop and oversee Manager(s) of Construction and Construction Manager(s) who are responsible for large construction projects across their assigned territory.

The Director of Construction is responsible for ensuring his / her downline works closely with the Project Management Organization (PMO) across all levels of the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Review and fully understand the budgets, schedules, and requirements of all projects.
  • Work with the Manager(s) of Construction to create and execute project work plans, schedules, and control budgets.
  • Work closely with the Manager(s) of Construction to identify and acquire contract vendor resources needed for on-time completion of the project(s).
  • Work with the Manager(s) of Construction to review and approve contract vendor labor rates. Work closely with the Senior Director of Construction to garner pre-approval of contract vendor labor rates before a potential contract vendor starts the on-boarding process with Metronet.
  • Oversee the management of operational aspects of a project to ensure on time and on budget project completion.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Organization (PMO) Leadership to prepare, review and present reports to summarize the markets in his / her assigned territories of responsibility.
  • Participate and / or provide oversight and approval for decisions on the scope and delivery of projects including serving as a technical expert in interpreting the specifications of the project.
  • Communicate requirements and specifications to the Manager(s) of Construction and construction staff, when necessary, and assist with any questions related to the technology, equipment, and design requirements.
  • Assist the Manager(s) of Construction with periodic meetings and presentations, when necessary, and act as an escalation point for difficult issues with internal and external customers.
  • Review and approve all market agreements, permits and authorization compliance and others, as applicable.
  • Provide clear, consistent, and thorough direction to the Manager(s) of Construction and assure they are effectively managing, developing, and nurturing their teams.
  • Mentor the Manager(s) of Construction and their staff, as necessary, to deliver consistent performance per the company’s goals and foundational pillars.

Create an environment for all associates in their downline to thoroughly understand their duties and responsibilities, along with the associated processes, to produce desired results.

Build goal oriented and successful teams that are agile in actions and embrace vision. Work closely with Manager(s) of Construction and their downlines so they may grow into advanced positions as company grows.

  • Review and approve job cost accounting reports submitted in Oracle or other accounting tools the company may adopt over time.
  • Maintain day-to-day communication with the SVP / VP of Construction and other management as required.
  • Produce quality results in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Represent Metronet professionally to satisfy immediate customer needs and to foster good customer relations.
  • Ensure all communications both verbal and written are clear, concise, and effectively drive confidence in all interactions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with construction teams, boundary partners and the general public.
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and professional attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance according to company policies.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role and for those of the construction team.

Demonstrate executive presence to drive confidence across the entire Metronet organization.

  • Adhere to company policies, regulations, procedures, and principles.
  • Assist in other duties as needed and directed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :

  • BS / BA degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or civil engineering preferred.
  • Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of Telecom construction and engineering, project budget creation and management, project scheduling and tracking, project finance, cost reporting, and field office operations.
  • Strong computer skills, with emphasis using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with a variety of mapping, GIS and CADD drafting programs.
  • Ability to Work with Google Earth KMZ’s and KML’s.
  • Ability and comfort putting together project estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ability to comprehend complex instructions and execute strategies communicating and promoting company objectives with other organizations.
