The Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral m ember of theinterdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patien t care.
TheMedical Assistant, Certified performs routine administrative andpatientcare supportive duties in a Health System medical practice tha tassistmedical and / or nursing staff in the examination and treatment ofp atients and ensure the clinic / office runs smoothly.

Clinical responsibilities : The CMA takes medical historie sand records vital signs, explainstreatment procedures to patients, andp repares patients for examinationsand procedures.
Patient care support res ponsibilities may include assisting the medicaland nursing staff duringe xamination and procedures, collecting andpreparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory test in theclinic / office, taking electrocar diograms, removing sutures / staples,changing sterile and non-sterile dre ssings, promoting patient / familyunderstanding of the educational content and his / her involvement in theplan of care, and documenting in the pati ent record.
Other clinical support responsibilities include disposing ofc ontaminated supplies, instrument processing, high level disinfectionand sterilization of medical instruments, telephoning prescriptions to aphar macy, preparing and administering medications as directed by aphysician, and authorizing drug refills as directed.
- Performs otherclinical functi ons as delegated and supervised by the physician.Administrative responsi bilities : The CMA greets patients, answers telephones, schedules appointm ents toinclude arrive appointments in MaestroCare, checkout patients,and referral scheduling;
- arranges for hospital admissions and laboratoryserv ices, updates and files patient medical records, fills out insuranceform s, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receiving copays andcollectio ns on account balances;
correspondence, and ordering clinicaland clerical supplies and forms. Performs other administrative duties asdirected.Ma y be requested to be a liaison for clinic activities such as JointCommis sion and falls and / or participate in clinic committees.

Education
Level I Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
Level II Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of HealthEducation Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.

Note : 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. General Ladder Statement : In addition to the education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA / RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II, III, and IV.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
