Job Summary
The Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University (ISU) seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art Education to begin August 16, 2025.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach theory and methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities include teaching a 3 / 3 load, maintaining an active professional practice, contributing to the administration of community outreach / service components, and forging positive relationships with public schools in the region.
Job duties can include supervising student teachers and / or mentoring graduate students. The new Assistant Professor will also serve the school, college, and university on committees and / or in some other capacities.
The salary for this nine-month position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
We are seeking candidates who demonstrate an understanding of and experience with contemporary issues in education, knowledge of contemporary art and art history, classroom teaching as both practice and research, technology, social justice, disabilities, and student assessment.
We seek colleagues with a proven ability to teach relevant disciplinary topics and communication skills.
The successful candidate should have a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Art Education or a closely related field, and three or more years of relevant teaching experience.
The most suited candidate for this position will present evidence of a robust and promising creative and / or research agenda that is relevant to visual arts education.
State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position. ABD candidates will be considered.
The doctoral degree must be completed within one calendar year of the Assistant Professor position start date.
