Nurse Practitioner Oncology

Responsibilities

  • The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Oncology is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management for the Oncology practice.
  • A Nurse Practitioner’s practice incorporates both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the board certified / eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients.
  • Functions as an integral part of the medical team.
  • Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to each patient’s needs.
  • Identifies safety concerns and institutes measures to provide a safe environment and appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.
  • The Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with the Physicians in providing multidisciplinary care for patients.
  • Provides primary care within the scope of the Nurse Practitioner license with emphasis on health promotion, education, coordination of care and emotional support to the patients and families while combining the qualities of both nursing and medicine.
  • Plans, coordinates and provides for optimum patient care in the clinic.
  • Participates in the facilitation and authorization process for chemotherapy, immunotherapy infusions, and clinical trials;

office schedules and patient assignments; coaching and mentoring team members; chart reviews to determine best practice and outcomes.

  • Serves as a liaison for decision making on behalf of the Physician in their absence.
  • Performs history and physicals.
  • Orders laboratory tests, dictates / documents follow-up consult notes.
  • Documents the patient record utilizing documentation guidelines, standards of care and patient goals.
  • Performs follow-up at specific intervals per specific algorithms and protocols.
  • Provides clinical, professional expertise and leadership for patients, families and staff members.
  • Functions as an expert clinician, consultant, educator and leader in patient care management, ensuring optimal patient care management and outcomes.
  • Acts as a consultant in clinical setting, maintaining, and promoting standards of care.
  • Incorporate both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the Physician to provide expert care to the patients.
  • Responsible to the Physician partners and the Director of Clinical Operations, and functions as an integral part of the medical team.
  • Fosters the values and supports the mission of Beverly Hills Cancer Center.
  • Uses expert hematologic and oncologic knowledge, clinical skills and critical thinking in managing daily delivery of patient care services assuring implementation of the appropriate clinical processes and coordinating / promoting an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care.
  • Performs assessment and provides chemotherapy education for patients beginning / or changing treatment regimens.
  • Serves as subject matter expert / mentor for nursing team.
  • Supervises infusion nursing team to address issues / concerns during patient treatment.
  • Appropriately documents procedures and follow-up as necessary.
  • Contributes to the formal and informal evaluations of staff competency, determining staff educational needs, and providing structured assistance in areas needing improvement.
  • Provides staff training, as needed, both informally and in formal in-service presentations.
  • Demonstrates skills including the ability to select, motivate, develop, evaluate performance, coach and promote collaborative team efforts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse / Nurse Practitioner in California along with Continuing Education Requirements
  • National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult Medical Oncology experience working as a Nurse / Nurse Practitioner or equivalent combination of relevant education and / or experience
  • Furnishing license issued by the State of California and personal DEA number
  • Three (3) plus years of nursing experience, preferably in Oncology
  • Excellent communication skills; customer focused; excellent attention to detail; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines;

strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment

  • Proven excellent customer service skills, including the ability to progressively probe, analyze, identify root causes of problems, provide practical solutions, and negotiate resolutions
  • Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Capable of organizing and assigning work, allocating resources, and delegating to appropriate staff to provide safe and effective care
  • Able to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships others within and outside the organization
  • Demonstrated positive and motivating interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work effectively with a variety of individuals and to supervise through influence and delegation
  • Capable of organizing and assigning work, allocating resources, and delegating to appropriate staff to provide safe and effective care
