Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a licensed Registered Nurse to serve as Assistant Director of Nursing and to oversee and supervise professional and paraprofessional nursing staff in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients at the Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center located in Joliet, Illinois.
The incumbent will consult with unit treatment team in development of modalities for difficult to manage patients and monitors same, randomly checks assessments, nursing care plan and treatment plan progress notes.
He / she will perform and document regular patient visits in order to evaluate the utilization of the Nursing Quality Improvement Plan.
Essential Functions
Serves as the Assistant Director of Nursing for the Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC) Mental Health (MH) units.
Serves as full-line supervisor.
Assigns and verifies staff attend mandatory in-service programs.
Develops and maintains good interpersonal relations with staff.
Performs and documents regular patient visits in order to evaluate the utilization of the Nursing Quality Improvement Plan.
Reviews the therapeutic environment (which supports clinical excellence in the treatment of the physical body, supports the psycho-social and spiritual needs of the patient, family, and staff and produces measurable positive effects on patients’ clinical outcomes and staff effectiveness) of assigned units to meet the standards of JITC and outside reviewing bodies.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerative above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with course work in nursing.
Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Three (3) years of professional experience working in a psychiatric hospital.
Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and / or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards.
Three (3) years of professional experience recommending or preparing nursing treatment plans for patients.
Three (3) years of professional experience providing training to paraprofessional and professional nursing staff.
Conditions of Employment
Requires the ability to serve on-call on a rotating basis, after business hours, weekends and holidays.
Requires the ability to secure and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
Requires ability to pass the IDOC background check.
