Summary :

Barr is seeking a senior level geologist or hydrogeologist to join its Minneapolis office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.

Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with performing or coordinating the completion of ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments in support of property transactions (e.

  • g., acquisitions, divestitures); designing, implementing, and coordinating activities associated with Phase II investigations, including investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion;
  • interpreting data and developing site conceptual models; developing site management strategies and response action plans (RAPs), including conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies;
  • estimating costs associated with these types of activities; completing contracting associated with these activities; preparation of technical reports;

and responding to quotes and proposals.

Additional responsibilities will include mentoring junior staff; consulting with regulatory agencies and clients; and participation in business development initiatives and client management.

While the position is in Minneapolis, periodic travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or hydrogeology or related disciplines
  • 10 or more years of relevant work experience directly related to the responsibilities above
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in geology or hydrogeology or related disciplines
  • Registered professional geologist, as applicable, or ability to become registered within one year
  • Familiarity with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) guidance documents
  • Project management and leadership experience with complex projects
  • Experience conducting communications, meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnel
  • Staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and one’s home office.

This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.

NOTE : Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.

Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required.

Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
