Senior Mechanical Designer
ABOUT THE ROLE
Working as part of the Design Engineering Team, the Senior Designer is responsible for the design and implementation of inside plant infrastructure (i.
e. physical design) for telecommunications and Transit systems. The role involves proposing design solutions, surveying sites to verify field conditions, evaluating equipment and cabling placement, and capturing and documenting designs via AutoCAD or MicroStation.
This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network and solution architects, general contractors, OEM suppliers and manufacturers, project managers, and Engineers within governmental Transit agencies.
What you’ll be doing
As part of the Operations team, you'll help ensure our design and implementation of ISP for telecommunications and transit systems is up to current principles.
Your counterparts on the team will rely on your ability to evaluate and survey current conditions and drive cross-functional groups to completion.
It's a role with a lot of variety, and day-to-day, you'll mainly be involved with :
- Review customer technical specifications and provide creative solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Develop mechanical, electrical, and cable designs including specifying equipment and materials for new products / solutions.
- Create design and construction layout designs in AutoCAD for submittal to transit authorities for review and approval.
- Prepare bill of materials and stocklists to enable efficient supply chain management and procurement of new equipment designs.
Ensure dual sourcing strategies are developed to mitigate supply chain risks.
- Conduct site design surveys and preconstruction walkthroughs to develop and explain new engineering and construction designs.
- Review collected site survey information to determine the placement of new equipment, parts required for installation, cable type and connections, power equipment needs, and outside cabinet modifications and cooling requirements.
- Oversee design services subcontractors across multiple projects to ensure high product quality is submitted to transit authorities.
- Prepare bill of materials, estimated quantities, and cost estimates for customer proposals
- Build relationships with engineers across transit authorities and subcontractors and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders when design changes are required.
- Categorize part numbers for project equipment catalogs, including both hardware and software integration
- Prepare a statement of work and technical descriptions for use in creating and releasing to potential suppliers.
- Review customer RFPs and generate technical solutions and responses.

- 7+ years of experience in telecom infrastructure or hardware design
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and / or MicroStation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
- Creative problem-solving skills and ability to think innovatively.
- Identify and anticipate project and design-related risks and ability to create actions for risk mitigation
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet project schedules
- Highly motivated and organized.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and supplier locations.
Preferred Skills :
- Associate’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering Technology field or equivalent experience
- Experience working with the MTA or with other Transit Authorities
- High-voltage electrical power experience is a plus
- OSHA 30 Certified
- NYCT Track Trained
- 3 years experience in Revit
