Medical Coding Educator
Full-time, 40 Hours / Week

Hybrid (Onsite 2-3 Days / Week)
Summary :
The Medical Coding Educator is responsible for training services and support at various levels within the organization in relation to coding and compliance.
Responsibilities :
Coordinate and conduct training and mentorship of personnel who are new to the Professional Coding department.
Coordinate and conduct CPT and ICD-10 coding education for new providers.
Maintain library of clear and accurate Professional Coding Standard Work Instructions (SWI) and oversee the development of new SWI.
Oversee annual updates and distribution of the Professional Coding E / M manual.
Produce educational materials (such as PowerPoints and tip sheets).
Oversee ongoing provider audits and provide follow-up education as needed.
Collaborate with supervisors on quarterly coder audits and provide follow-up education as needed.
Understand healthcare policies and developments (including CPT and ICD updates, payor guidelines, denial trends) and strive to ensure coding personnel and materials are current.
Help prepare professional coding team for updates to Epic and Office365.
Seek to build successful relationships with others in the organization.
Provide backup to the analytics coordinator when called upon.
Assist on other projects as needed.

Technical Expertise :
Proficient in CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 coding.
Proficient in Microsoft Office365 Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint (or similar products).
Proficient in Epic Ambulatory and PB Resolute (or similar EHR and revenue cycle systems).
Able to explain common coding metrics (such as level of service bell curves, most common coding denials, provider audit results and trends).
Able to multi-task and manage shifting priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Able to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
Able to maintain good working relationships with coders, providers, department administrators, Epic team.
Education and Experience :
Education : Bachelors degree, or, CDEO Certified Documentation Expert Outpatient, CDEI Certified Documentation Expert Inpatient, CPC Approved Instructor
Certification : AAPC or AHIMA coding certification is required.
Years of relevant experience : 3 to 5 years is preferred.
Years of experience supervising : None.
