CTE Instructor HVAC Program
Position Details
Pickford Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced HVAC Instructor to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program starting in the 2024-2025 school year.
The Career-Tech Classroom Instructor shall organize, coordinate, promote, and give direction to a comprehensive instructional program for the HVAC CTE Program.
This position is part time (15 hours per week 3 hours per day).
inimum Qualifications and Requirements
Valid and current Michigan CTE Teaching Certificate for Secondary Level with Michigan Vocational Authorization in occupational area (Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration (CIP , or eligibility for Annual Authorization based on industry experience.
Degree or equivalent training in HVAC field preferred.
Minimum of 4000 hours of documented recent and relevant work experience within the last 10 years in HVAC related field.
Industry certifications and licenses, or similar endorsement preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective instruction in a technical setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
Must complete and pass the required criminal history check.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging and rigorous HVAC coursework aligned with Michigan CTE standards.
- Utilize hands-on learning experiences, including lab activities and work-based learning opportunities, to equip students with the technical skills needed for success in the HVAC industry.
- Infuse leadership development within instruction.
- Inspire and motivate students to explore career paths in HVAC, including installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment including industry and lab safety.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development. Provide appropriate feedback on work.Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.Prepare classroom and / or learning environment for all learning opportunities.
Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following : Meeting CTE state and federal reporting and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with other CTE instructors and school leaders to ensure a seamless and effective learning experience for students.
Serve as the liaison between the HVAC Program Advisory Committee and school leadership.Stay current with industry trends and best practices in HVAC technology.
When possible, attend Professional Development and other networking opportunities with outside programs in the area including annual industry-specific PD.
Encourage parent and community involvement and obtain program information for parents when requested.Other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO : Building Principal
SALARY RANGE (Prorated According to FTE) : Per PEA Master Agreement
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment.
Ability to kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces.Ability to reach with hands and arms with good dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.Normal hearing and vision (with or without corrective lenses).
