The Opportunity :
Culture Biosciences is looking for a Director, Software Engineering . This role will play a key part in shaping the product and team that will build core infrastructure and will lead a distributed team of talented software engineers.
What you'll do :
- Responsible for shaping the technical vision and goals of the software engineering team.
- Partner with the Product Management team to align the technical roadmap to product strategy.
- Leverage deep understanding of technology to make decisions on scalable architecture, devops tools, infrastructure improvements, and process optimizations.
- Operate as an engaged leader with cross-functional teams and provide subject matter and technical expertise for multiple development projects.
- Oversee adherence to cybersecurity protocols.
- Ensure effective, on-time shipping of product improvements and features.
- Cultivate a culture of operational and engineering excellence.
- Establish new / improve existing engineering KPIs.
- Lead the day to day operations of the distributed software engineering team and manage effectively through technical guidance, support and mentorship.
- Facilitate and coach software engineering teams on engineering requirements estimate and work sizing.
- Hold regular 1 : 1’s and skip levels to ensure staff engagement, development and create avenues for feedback.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback for professional growth.

About you :
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) majors
- 10+ years of combined software development and management experience with increasing responsibilities
- 3+ years of managing software organizations over 10 people
- Experience managing full stack engineering teams
- Experience with Cloud Services architecture with :
- Amazon Web Services (primary)
- Google Cloud Platform (secondary)
- Experience at an early to mid-stage startup.
- Experience w / managing software development for equipment monitoring / control would be valued.

Location & Schedule :
This is an onsite hybrid position. We’re looking for someone based in the San Francisco Bay Area who is able to work in person at our office in South San Francisco at least 2 days per week (Tuesday & Wednesday are our common office days).
Base Salary Range :
Culture Biosciences's compensation package includes market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and great benefits.
Our expected salary range for this role is $245,000 to $265,000 . We are hiring for multiple levels and backgrounds so final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
