Johnson College is currently seeking a part-time Electrical Instructor. The instructor will be responsible for delivering a structured, introductory-level course in basic residential electrical systems to the local correctional facility remotely. This five-session course is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge in electrical theory, safety practices, circuit design, and basic National Electrical Code (NEC) standards. The instructor should have the ability to operate various communication technology resources, such as but not limited to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and email.
Essential Job Functions :
- Deliver curriculum content as outlined in the Introduction to Electricity course syllabus
- Instruct students on basic electrical theory, safety procedures, tool use, and installation practices
- Guide students through practical wiring exercises, including switch circuits, outlet circuits, and circuit breaker installation
- Teach and enforce safety protocols
- Prepare and maintain instructional materials, tools, and training aids
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and performance
- Submit all required documentation in a timely manner
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support learning and skill development
- Ensure compliance with all institutional policies and correctional facility protocols.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements :
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the construction or electrical tradesHigh school Diploma or equivalentDemonstrated expertise in at least one of the following : electrical systems, building maintenance, carpentry, or plumbingFamiliarity with electrical wiring, GFCI receptacles, panel boxes, switches, and NEC regulationsAbility to work with a diverse student population in a correctional education settingProficiency in using trades tools, safety equipment, and instructional resourcesStrong organizational and communication skillsAbility to instruct both theory and hands-on practice effectivelyExperience :
Prior teaching or instructional experience, preferably in adult or vocational educationExperience in rough and finish carpentry, concrete and masonry, drywall, framing, and general constructionFamiliarity with correctional education programs or experience working in secure facilities, preferredSkills :
Ability to deliver instruction confidently in front of small groupsFlexibility in scheduling to accommodate program needs, to include evenings.All candidates must be eligible to work in a correctional facility and may be subject to background screening in accordance with instructional and regulatory policies. A teaching demonstration may be required as part of the selection process.
