Winston Benefits, a Brown & Brown company, is seeking a The Database Developer to provide all manner of MS SQL Server database creation, maintenance, usage, and training support to the rest of the business.

This ranges from creating reports to creating Power BI dashboards, to explaining schema, to improving database and report performance, to serving as the schema subject matter expert, to writing complex queries, to helping the Chief Architect and DBA continue to transform our data architecture to keep pace with Benefits Administration industry needs and best practices.

WHAT YOU'LL DO :

• Write Technical reports documenting database activity, functionality, performance, and data governance, including reports on coding changes and proposals for system improvements.
• Write Business intelligence reports to extract and analyze data from the database to provide insights for business decision-making.

They will include dashboards, charts, graphs and grids to visualize the data.

• Write Ad-hoc reports on-demand to answer specific questions or address particular needs.
• Create stable, reliable, and effective databases.
• Adjust database configuration, query design, indexing, and other system parameters to maximize performance.
• Develop stored procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and views using T-SQL
• Write and maintain complex SQL queries that go way beyond basic SQL queries.
• Develop and maintain a Data Dictionary.
• Research and suggest new database products, services, and protocols.
• Assist the DBA in monitoring database health.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED :

• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Mastery of T-SQL
• Good communication skills to write clear and concise reports.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and escalate issues.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot database, report, and dashboard issues independently.
• Ability to work extended hours when needed.
• Ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Insurance Industry or Benefits Administration Industry terminology and business processes preferred.

Required :

• Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or mathematics related field
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server database programming, database design, data warehouse design, query performance tuning, writing stored procedures, etc.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience on Microsoft BI tools (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
• Minimum 3 years of experience with Power BI desktop, Report Builder, and Microsoft Visual Studio
• Minimum 2 years of experience supporting multi-database environments
• Minimum 2 years of experience with AZURE DevOps, git, Python

Preferred

• Database administration skills Job monitoring, Backup / restore, security management, etc.
• Experience developing ETL processes loading Data Warehouses / Data Marts
• Insurance Industry or Benefits Administration Industry experience
