JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Operations Analyst is responsible for using data analytics to report on operational performance, analyze operational performance for improvement opportunities, assess flight schedule structure for operational risks, and build scheduled block times to achieve on-time arrival performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Compile and report on daily, monthly, and YTD operational metrics year over year and vs. goal.
  • Analyze data to identify "root cause" of variances to goal by operational area.
  • Design / Build Scorecards with existing systems and then partner with IT to build "scorecards" and standard reporting via Business Intelligence (BI) and related tools.
  • Clarify and coordinate delay and cancellation coding to ensure accurate data for analysis.
  • Assess changes to schedule structure for risks to operational reliability, e.g., schedule tightness, recoverability options, etc.
  • Build city-pair, time-of-day, and season-of-year specific scheduled block times using historical times, historical trends, and expected variations going forward (e.

g., airport construction).

Conduct "continuous improvement" analysis of actual block times relative to scheduled block times in order to reduce a) the average variance between actuals and schedule (e.

g., + / - 1% point of goal) and b) the standard deviation (e.g., % of "outliers").

  • Partner with Amazon to track performance and identify means to improve performance
  • Mentor and train new / junior analysts.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses, as requested.
  • Other duties assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Strong analytical skills, including manipulating large volumes of data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, graphs, macros, and "linked" spreadsheets.
  • Ability to summarize and communicate the results of / conclusions from the data analysis.
  • Two to four years' analytical experience, including working as part of a team.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with data analytics
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience with Network schedule tools such as Sabre Schedule Manager
  • Microsoft Office, e.g., PowerPoint
  • Airline experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
