Job Summary :
The VP of Sales Engineering will be responsible for leading one of the most integral and important organizations in Astound Business solutions.
This role demands a leader who not only manages but inspires through action, setting a standard for excellence and integrity.
Reporting to the SVP of Business Solutions, this position will be responsible for the daily management of the national Sales Engineering organization at Astound.
This role will include setting the strategic vision for the organization, improving processes and tools, and providing daily hands-on organizational management to build a world-class organization.
Duties And Responsibilities :
Organizational Leadership :
- Lead by example, embodying the company’s values and demonstrating a commitment to ethical business practices.

- Build a scalable and adaptable Sales Engineering organization nationally, ensuring readiness for market changes and business growth.
Strategic Planning And Customer Engagement :
- Align sales engineering strategies with overall business objectives, ensuring a cohesive approach to market challenges.
- Support the acquisition of new customers and increase account penetration across all market segments.
- Drive process improvement initiatives by removing barriers, and modifying or enhancing current processes, and by making system and automation recommendations.
- Define, refine, document, and scale Sales Engineering processes, including discovery, technical qualification, custom demos, workshops, and proof-of-concepts as well.
- Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Construction, Sales and NOC leaders to evaluate new technical needs of customers, support new products, and solve customer needs.
- Stay abreast of market trends including engaging with key customers and stakeholders to ensure the Sales Engineering team is well-positioned to respond effectively.
- Work with local and corporate engineering teams to review and manage the health and evolution of networks including identifying strategic needs and expansion opportunities.
- Provide input to product organization on product development and enhancements to existing products. Act as a subject matter expert for all Business Solutions data and voice product and service offerings.
- Represent the company externally as a thought leader.
Team Management And Development :
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Sales Engineering team, emphasizing professional growth and performance excellence.
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, nurturing innovation and process optimization by encouraging open feedback both from within the SE organization and from partner teams.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Sales, Project Management, Design, Engineering, Network Engineering, Operations, NOC and other internal teams.
- Lead, mentor, recruit, and develop a diverse and effective Sales Engineering team, creating clear objectives for team members to reach company goals.
- Coordinate and direct the preparation and presentation of proposals, in conjunction with boundary partner groups, to create complex data and voice network solutions for government, education, carrier, cellular, media and enterprise customers.
- Review solutions created by the Sales Engineering staff to provide necessary input and ensure technical accuracy.
- Manage process execution including data quality and completeness in the company CRM system, adhering to all required processes and workflows.
- Travel as required by the business. May include up to 25% travel in a quarter.
- Perform other duties as requested by leadership.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree preferred with a concentration in telecommunications, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent directly applicable experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 15+ years of sales engineering experience.
- 10+ years leading high-performance Sales Engineering teams.
- Experience leading national organizations and teams of 25+ preferred.
- Proven experience building, scaling, and leading world-class organizations.
- Proven ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders, build relationships with customers, and drive revenue in a fiber-focused communications provider.
- Demonstrable track record in designing complex network connectivity and voice solutions.
- Proven ability to recruit, mentor, coach and develop employees.
