New College Grad, Product Development Engineering (BS & MS, Summer 2025 start)

Job Description

Western Digital is seeking a Product Development Engineer to join the Memory Technology team in Milpitas, CA.

The ideal hire for this role will collaborate with all internal functions (design, device, firmware, test, system, marketing, packaging, quality, reliability, and manufacturing) needed to develop and bring a Mobile / SSD product to market.

The focus of the individual in this multi-disciplinary team is to design, develop, and maintain a product test flow that balances cost, quality, and time to market while meeting various internal and external requirements.

This engineer also takes a leading role in resolving HW (PKG / NAND / ASIC) related failures during the development process.

Post-qualification, the individual will work with the manufacturing team to proactively improve the yield, test cost and quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Electrical Engineering and is internally motivated to understand and solve technical issues.

They must display strong ownership of projects and results including :

• Creating the test strategy for new embedded Flash products based on customer requirements, engineering specifications, and device characteristics.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills, structured problem solving, attention to details and ability to change direction quickly.
• The ability to work effectively in a team but display leadership when needed and display strong ownership of projects and results.
• Modify / Write Python scripts to perform data analysis with statistic libraries.

Qualifications

Required :

Current student, pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field with a graduation date before July 2025.

The expected start date for this position is in July or August 2025.

• Minimum of 3.0 GPA
• Strong technical skills in area of study
• Interest in flash memory, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Windows and Linux server storage environments
• Both analog / digital design and simulation experience required.

Preferred :

• Specialization in analog design, digital design, device physics related field is preferred.
• Hands on experience with electronic lab equipment is preferred.

Skills :

• Python / C development skills
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.

We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York.

This range may be modified in the future.

You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance.

Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
