  • ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To assist in the management and direction of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our operation and services, and as may be directed by the Administrator and Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

    • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assist DON in Managing and directing all aspects of the Nursing Services Department.

      Makes rounds to ensure that nursing personnel perform their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.

      Makes rounds with physicians as necessary.

      Communicates information to nursing personnel regarding new resident admissions and resident discharges and provides oversight of the admission and discharge process.

      Reviews nursing personnel medical record documentation to ensure that it appropriately and accurately describes the nursing care provided.

      Contributes to the development and maintenance of written nursing policies and procedures.

      Provides written and oral reports / recommendations to the DON and Administrator, as necessary / required, concerning the operation of the nursing services department.

      Prepares for and participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

      Supports the Quality Assessment & Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.

      Serves on operation committees (i.e., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Budget, Quality Assessment and Assurance, Care Planning, etc.).

      Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to nursing services.

      Determines nursing staffing levels to meet the residents' needs and ensures that a sufficient number of licensed nurses and dialysis technicians are scheduled to meet the daily nursing care needs of each patient.

      Assists DON in the recruitment and selection of nursing and dialysis tech staff.

      Ensures that new nursing staff are properly oriented and trained.

      Assist DON to develop nursing staff work assignments and schedules.

      Resolves complaints and grievances made by nursing department personnel.

      Ensures that nursing department employment actions are administered fairly and in compliance with the facilitys Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation.

      Supervises and assists in the management of the infection control program, including ensuring that personal protective equipment is used in handling infectious materials by nursing personnel.

      Assists in the development of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of each patient's nursing needs, which are performed in furtherance of the resident care planning policy.

      Observes medication passes and dialysis treatments to ensure quality.

      Assist in develops, plans, and conducts in-service training classes.

      Ensures adequate stock levels of medications, medical supplies, and equipment are maintained.

      Assist to develop a written plan of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each patient that identifies the problems / needs of the patient, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.

      Attend and direct weekly facility clinical IDT meetings discussing all patients receiving dialysis treatments under our services.

      Performs other duties as may be needed or assigned per the Director of Nursing.

    • QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    • High School Diploma or equivalent

      Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

      2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility preferred.

      Must possess an active license to practice as a Registered Nurse license valid in this state.

      Must provide evidence of being free of tuberculosis infection upon hire and as set forth by the facility's policies.

      Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

      Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

      Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies / personnel, and the general public.

      Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.

      Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.

      Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and the willingness to handle difficult residents.

    • PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

      Must be able to cope with the position's mental, emotional, and stress.

      Must possess sight / hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

      Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively.

      Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which may include a medical and physical examination.

      Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

      Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. It requires infrequent lifting of more weight up to 50 pounds, as well as occasional pushing and pulling of carts.

      May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

    • This position is not eligible for remote work.
