The Opportunity
As VP of Engineering, you'll :
- Drive technical strategy for ShopGraph 1.0 and AI-powered products
- Lead a lean, high-performing engineering team emphasizing "deep generalist" philosophy
- Collaborate with CEO, Chief Architect, Head of AI, and product teams
- Implement cutting-edge AI and ML technologies for e-commerce challenges
- Oversee development of scalable systems using hybrid graph and vector database architectures

What You'll Do
- Lead technical strategy, focusing on ShopGraph 1.0 launch and scaling
- Implement hybrid graph and vector database architecture for our e-commerce knowledge engine
- Drive AI adoption in engineering processes, fostering innovation across products
- Build a world-class engineering team leveraging AI-assisted development
- Enhance SimplyCodes' verification system and guide Product.ai's initial development
- Optimize team structure and processes for efficient scaling
- Translate business objectives into groundbreaking technical roadmaps
- Make high-level architectural decisions balancing innovation and scalability
- Implement engineering processes promoting efficiency, quality, and rapid iteration
A Day in the Life
- Lead strategy sessions on scaling ShopGraph
- Review AI-assisted coding tool implementation plans
- Conduct technical deep dives on NLP capabilities
- Mentor team leads on managing cross-functional teams
- Collaborate on Product.ai's technical roadmap
- Engage in paid consulting projects to solve critical challenges
Must-Have Skills
- 15+ years of engineering experience, 7+ years in senior leadership
- Expertise in distributed systems architecture (1M+ daily users)
- Strong understanding of database paradigms for large-scale systems
- Track record leading AI / ML implementation in production
- Experience managing cloud infrastructure at scale
- API strategy development for high-volume systems
- Big data processing and ETL operations oversight
- Understanding of e-commerce platforms and challenges
- Agile project management in high-growth environments
- Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills
- Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Familiarity with graph / vector databases, blockchain, AR / VR in e-commerce
- Experience with system internationalization and voice interfaces
- Open source leadership and patent filing track record
- Microservices architecture and serverless computing expertise
- Background in NLP, recommender systems, and personalization
- Innovation fostering within engineering teams
- Advanced performance optimization for large-scale systems
- Scalable search engine architecture experience
Compensation & Growth Opportunity
At Demand.io, we align individual success with company performance :
- Competitive base salary : $250,000 - $350,000 DOE
- Equity : 0.50% - 1.50% initial grant in a $100M+ valuation company
