The Psychiatric Assistant Director of Nursing is the Psychiatric and Psych ED Unit Manager's right-hand person, a member of the MedStar Harbor Hospital's Division of Nursing and leadership team.
The assistant nurse manager performs some of the following : supports and collaborates with the nurse manager in providing leadership and oversight for a specific unit / department;
directs and coordinates the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel; ensures the provision of holistic, culturally competent, and person-centered, quality, safe, and cost-effective evidence-based nursing care for patients / families.
Applies the nursing process within the context of the organization's shared / collaborative decision-making framework; collaboratively manages the patient's transitions across the continuum of care to assist patients and populations in achieving or maintaining an optimal level of health and functioning.
Schedule :
This is a full-time day Assistant Nurse Manager position. Shifts are generally 8-4 : 30, but could be modified based on the needs of the unit.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required; master's degree in nursing or health related field from a nationally accredited program preferred
- 3-4 years of progressive nursing care experience required; leadership and management experience strongly preferred. 2+ years of inpatient psychiatric and / or Psych ED RN leadership experience strongly preferred
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and / or Compact State Licensure valid in the State of Maryland. BLS required
Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Overview
- 36-bed acute adult inpatient psychiatry beds spread across two units of 24 and 12 beds, respectively
- Evidenced-based mental health treatment
- Hospital-based Protection Services (Security) Department.

Psychiatric Emergency Department Crisis Unit Overview
- Ability to take up to 10-patients, including adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients
- Provide therapeutic milieu and treatment until patients are appropriately dispositioned
