JOIN the TRANSDEV Team as a Maintenance Supervisor Location : 405 N 79th Ave Phoenix, AZ 85043 Position Summary : Directly supervises the mechanics, service employees and other maintenance personnel, monitors outside contract laborers;
schedules the repairs and maintenance of a wide variety of LNG and diesel-powered equipment; ensures an environment that meets safety and regulatory requirements and monitors all daily contractual maintenance obligations.
Essential Job Functions : Supervises mechanics, monitors outside contract laborers.
- Supervises mechanics, investigates, provides information, makes and administers decisions concerning employee discipline.
- Daily review of RTA dashboard and subsequent follow up on all abnormal issues.
- The Maintenance Supervisors also has the responsibility of scheduling time off.
- Evaluates the performance of both new and current employees.
- Facilitates and schedules training of both new and current employees.
- Works with Human Resources by participating in interview panels for maintenance positions.
- Monitors the budget at a sectional level.
- Explains administrative policies and procedures to employees; administers Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions.
- Monitors absences / PTO / FMLA usage; verifies and authorizes time sheets for payroll purposes.
- Represents Veolia Transportation at first level grievances.
- Assisting with scheduling outside contract labor for special projects and monitors the laborers performance.
- Conducts daily safety / shift turnover meetings with both mechanics and supervisor on duty.
- Works with facility maintenance to communicate issues relevant to a safe and pleasant work environment.
Coordinates coach / fleet vehicle repairs and maintenance
- Schedules major and minor repairs.
- Creates work orders for repairs to coaches, reviews past work orders for repairs to coaches, and reviews and closes current work orders.
- Assigns work to mechanics based on the work required and the qualifications of the mechanic.
- Makes on-the-spot decisions regarding repairs; and, at times, makes on-the-spot repairs when necessary.
- Communicates with mechanics on diagnosis and procedures for repair and assists with technical questions.
- Monitors tracking sheets generated by management to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner.
- Monitors the work of both internal employees and vendors for quality and quantity.
- Works with Parts personnel to obtain the correct replacement parts.
- Decides which coaches to pull / swap out and relays this information to operations at least 8 hours in advance.
- Lists and schedules coaches ready for PMI’s and other work and communicates this information with operations.
- Assists with the scheduling of coaches needed for detailing and steaming for the service workers.
Tracks and analyzes data for various reports
- Reviews work orders and all company generated reports for accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitors the status of down / out-of-service equipment and issues a daily report to the COP.
- Collects oil samples and sends them for analysis, with follow up on associated repairs and notification.
- Ensures work order closure at EOM as per RTA guidelines.
Performs tasks and projects as assigned
- Addresses environmental concerns or issues that develop within the facility.
- Addresses environmental concerns or issues that develop out on the road in case of a vehicle failure.
- Ensures the cleanliness of the yard and facilities by walking the facility at the start and end of each shift.
- Communicates with management both within and from other departments daily to ensure objectives are met.
Purpose and Nature of Work Relationships : Has extensive contact with others inside the organization; works with Radio personnel, operations supervisors, and dispatch to facilitate the maintenance and repairs of the coaches.
Has moderate contact with others outside the organization; communicates with the City of Phoenix (COP) regarding repairs and COP inspections, communicates with outside vendors regarding the repair / maintenance / wrapping of the coaches.
Percentage of Time for Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities :

Essential Knowledge and Skills :
- Requires five (5) years of progressive mechanical experience to include diesel mechanic experience of which a minimum of 2 years must be in supervisory or lead role.
- An Associates degree in management, mechanical engineering or other related technical field is required or an amount of experience equivalent to an Associates degree.
- High School Diploma or GED and valid AZ driver’s license and the ability to obtain a CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement required.
- Must have forklift certification.
- Must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
- Must be able to work amid constant interruptions, prioritize and deal with time pressures and be able to clearly communicate verbally and in written form.
- Must have a broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy duty transportation vehicles to include transmissions, engines, brakes, climate control units.
- Must have strong organization and labor relations skills, have radio dispatch skills and have basic math skills for tracking trend and for report writing.
- This position is autonomous, and self-directed and the ability to handle crisis / conflict is required.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination including a drug test.
- Tools, Equipment and Vehicles Used : Computer, printer, 2-way radio, telephone, fax, coach and fleet vehicles, forklift, CFAC lifts, hand tools;
uniforms are worn. Unique Working Conditions : Works outside in extreme weather conditions, is around fumes / odors and chemicals, and is around heavy machinery and safety hazards.
