Postdoctoral Fellow -Genitourinary Medical Oncology - Research

The MD Anderson GU Department (Christopher Logothetis / Estefania Labanca Team) is seeking a Postdoctoral fellow candidate to join the effort to understand the molecular mechanisms of growth of prostate cancer in the bone, applying preclinical models of prostate cancer bone metastasis.

A postdoctoral position focused on investigating the mechanisms underlying the progression of prostate cancer bone metastasis, with a focus on understanding how prostate cancer cells interact with the bone microenvironment.

  • Successful candidates must have strong cell / tissue culture skills, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency in bioinformatics tools and databases;
  • knowledge of next-generation sequencing data analysis, in particular, metabolomics; proficiency in statistical methods and data visualization techniques used in basic and translational research;

familiarity with preclinical approaches to monitor cancer therapy, experience in assessing and targeting pathways of the tumor and tumor microenvironment.

Candidates are expected to design novel projects, create hypothesis-driven experiments, maintain excellent descriptions of experiments performed, standardize, and validate new methods, and be able to interpret results.

Computer skills such as entering data obtained from experiments into graphic and statistics programs as well as the generation of figures after image analysis are essentials.

The employee should provide scientific expertise and organizational skills in getting involved in various research projects involving human database research.

Candidate will be well-predisposed to participate in procedures with collaborators. Other skills include performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and / or specific plans.

Read, write, and edit manuscripts and reports, as well as help with grant writing.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Gain experience in working with prostate cancer patient-derived xenograft models from our unique discovery platform to test scientific hypotheses in a rich translational environment.

Develop skills in data integration and multi-omics analysis.

Build knowledge in personalized medicine and precision health.

Gain experience in interacting with physician-scientists and oncologists.

Gain experience in executing bioinformatics analyses that address biological questions, including deciphering metabolic patterns in prostate cancer bone metastasis.

Build knowledge of bone biology and tumor-bone microenvironment interaction.

Develop proficiency in scientific writing and communication, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research at conferences.

PhD or MD

Prefer a candidate with the following qualifications / experience :

  • Recent (within 3 years) graduate
  • Background in molecular / cellular biology, biochemistry or cancer biology
  • Interest in preclinical modeling of cancer bone metastasis and translational research
  • Skills on bioinformatics and data analysis
  • Ability to collaborate and design and execute bioinformatics analyses that address biological questions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals and present research at conferences.
