Description
The RN Charge Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
This position is a clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation.

Responsibilities :
- Effectively interacts with patient, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.
- This nurse functions in a leadership role, overseeing daily unit operations, staff, and care delivery, utilizing a staff focused leadership model.
- Performs all aspects of patient care independently in a manner which optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors by making safe judgements.
- Involves patient / family in the formation of the plan of care.
- Develops, implements and updates an individualized plan of care based on identified patient care needs.
- Includes nursing, teaching, continuum of care and discharge planning utilizing resources as necessary.
- Is able to state rationale for clinical decisions based on critical thinking and deliver prompt, safe patient care.
- Initiates triage orders independently - prioritizes tasks based on patients acuity and units' rapidly changing needs.
- Explains procedures, therapies and treatments to patient and family.
- Documentation of treatment and reassessments as per policy.
- Uses appropriate resources to provide education.
- Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements an individualized plan, coordinates care delivery and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Demonstrates awareness of staffs clinical strengths and areas that need improvement.
- Mentors and coaches staff nurses and patient care technicians.
- Maintains an orderly and efficient clinical area that promotes team work and productivity.
- Is able to direct and redirect staff.
- Keeps all staff (including physicians) focused on the delivery of excellent patient care.
- Consistently demonstrates the eight key behaviors of hourly rounding.
- Directs care and determines the appropriate utilization of any assistant involved in providing direct patient care.
- Recognizes and manages emergency situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Education - attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice through participation in ongoing educational activities appropriate to the area of practice.
- Seeks experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
- Participates in systematic peer review.
- Collaborates with patient, family, physicians and ancillary staff.
- Creates a documented plan, focused on outcomes and decisions related to the care and delivery of service that indicates communications with patients, families, and others.
- Utilizes the best available evidence, including research findings to guide practice decisions.

Qualifications
Required :
- Current experience (within past five years).
- Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program.
- LIC RN.
- 3 years minimum experience as a registered nurse.
- BSN degree.
- ACLS.
- CERT BLS.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Consistently works within the framework of the Illinois Practice Act for Nursing and ANA Standards of Professional Nursing Practice.
- Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively.
Preferred :
- Minimum of 3yrs OR experience
- One year of experience in pertinent clinical specialty.
Addendum 1 Operating Room / Procedural RN
ACLS not required.
Addendum 2 Ambulatory Surgery RN / Pre / Post / PAT RN
- ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire
