JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Performs complex laboratory tests and analyzes results.

  • Acts as a technical resource to staff and trains new employees.
  • Evaluates and solves problems.
  • Remains knowledgeable and competent for all policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • May assist with substation staffing / scheduling.
  • Provides daily guidance and assistance to Scientists and Sr. Scientists
  • Maintains and models responsibility and accountability procedures and protocols.
  • Ensures and verifies quality control data is appropriate for the complexity of the reported tests.
  • Validates and evaluates new methodologies and tests and write new test procedures.
  • Follows section's inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents.
  • Troubleshoots instrument problems and tests new equipment.
  • Completes, verifies and reports testing in a timely manner
  • Complies with safety guidelines and procedures and adheres to regulatory mandates.
  • Prepares specimens and performs analytical examinations and quality tests.
  • Operates and performs preventive maintenance.
  • In the absence of Laboratory Supervisor, guides and assists Medical Laboratory Scientists to answer questions regarding policy and procedures in the areas trained.
  • Provides oversight of training to assist in ensuring all personnel are trained.
  • Maintains and monitors inventory control system to assure effective use of reagents and supplies
  • Complies with and promotes safety guidelines and procedures and adherence to regulatory mandates.

Ensures laboratory meets quality and productivity standards. - Ensures adequate quality control methods are implemented according to standard and addresses quality control issues.

  • Is a subject matter expert.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained to meet laboratory needs.
  • Assists with data base testing and recommends modification to the database.
  • Ensures productivity is sufficient to meet time constraints established for current procedures and processes.
  • Continually explores process improvement and efficient operation opportunities.
  • Perform clinical lab assays, tests, and procedures as appropriate.
  • Coordinate new test / protocol development and oversee the development and maintenance of new policies and procedure documents.

Manages customer service interactions and relationships with diplomacy and professionalism.

  • Actively participates in training and orientation of new technicians to learn job duties and responsibilities
  • Complies with section's telephone courtesy policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates cooperation when working with both internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates calmness under varying environmental circumstances remains willing and capable of assisting with crisis situations
  • Communicates problems with Supervisor or Lab Manager as needed

Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR Bachelor's degree in a related science field OR successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science / Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program.

With Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, ten years of clinical laboratory experience.

With Bachelor's degree in a related science field, nine years of clinical laboratory experience. With completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science / Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program, eight years of clinical laboratory experience.

With Master's degree, six years of clinical laboratory experience. With Doctorate degree, four years of clinical laboratory experience.
