Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Quality Engineering Manager to bring leadership, ingenuity, and a drive for results to our highly collaborative Quality Engineering Team in Lynnwood, WA.
Position Overview :
This position is responsible for leading the development of Customer Quality Improvement Plans, compliance with appropriate customer quality requirements during NPI (e.
g. PPAP) and development of factory tactical improvement plans in conjunction with the internal manufacturing and quality teams.
Build and cultivate partnerships with Manufacturing, Engineering, and other internal functions as well as external suppliers to analyze and quantify waste and quality deficiencies using a defined cost of poor-quality model along with other key metrics that impact the bottom line and customer satisfaction.
Establish and drive continuous improvement strategies to support the organization’s manufacturing quality and cost reduction goals.
Re-calibrate, educate, and mentor existing team to new quality standards with a hands-on management style.
Responsibilities :
- Assist the Site Quality Leader in day-to-day customer and factory tactical issues leading the quality engineering team.
- Resolve quality problems with Crane Aerospace customers by developing, improving, and sustaining quality improvement plans.
- Develop a strong team of quality engineers to sustain customer satisfaction. Eliminate quality problems at all levels of the organization and assure that product quality objectives are met by establishing and executing continuous improvement strategies.
- Reduce variation in operation by leveraging the efforts of the quality and manufacturing teams via a systematic and just-in-time introduction of process improvement tools.
Perform internal system audits to AS9100 standards.
Act as quality interface for all customers, keeping track of customer specific quality requirements and assuring conformance.
Maintain metrics on quality system performance utilizing data mining of support systems.
Minimum Requirements :
Experience :
- Five (5) or more years’ experience in demonstrated process improvement success
- Proven accomplishments utilizing OpEx and Lean tools / methodologies (Six Sigma BB, Tool Champion, DOE, GR&R, FMEA, etc.)
- Minimum of two (2) years supervisory / management experience with demonstrated success in recalibrating an existing team to higher standards.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience as a Quality Engineer in an Aerospace environment or in a similar industrial manufacturing setting
Knowledge :
- AS9100 quality systems
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
- Proofing and process capability tools required to drive the continuous improvement culture into the organization

- Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills in a matrix environment; Proficiency in Change Management
- Demonstrated ability to motivate all levels of the organization
- Strong team formation and leadership skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, to include presentation skills and facilitation of groups toward deliverables
- Proficient in the use of Word and Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, statistical software (i.e. Minitab or equivalent)
- Troubleshooting (determining causes of operating errors and decides what to do about it)
- Complex Problem Solving (identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions)
- Ability to link customer needs and business processes
- Ability to effectively establish rapport, techniques, and strategy to be used in personal contact with the various operational and staff groups and all levels of employees to ensure effective industrial working relationships
- Extensive ability to effectively express self orally and in writing to prepare comprehensive analyses, procedures, and reports
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to competently apply analytical statistics and other math functions to accomplish tasks such as recommend design changes, sampling plans, make trend analyses
Education / Certification :
- B.S. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Certified Champion in the following OpEx tools : Structured Problem Solving, 5S, Mistake-Proofing and process capability tools
- Six Sigma Green / Black Belt Certification preferred
Eligibility Requirement :
This position requires access to controlled data or information and therefore only US persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Working Conditions :
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, heel straps, and shop coats
Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as needed
Requires lifting 25 lbs
Requires approximately 5% travel to support customers
