Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in providing mechanical design solutions to complex challenges. Responsibilities include designing and upgrading machinery, creating machine specifications, and managing outsourced machine builds.
This role is crucial for supporting business needs related to scrap and material utilization reduction, as well as improvements in machine efficiency and yield.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design automation stations and tooling to enhance product quality, machine performance, and reduce scrap. These may include servo motors, pneumatic actuators, pick-and-place stations, test stations, and poke-yoke designs.
Proficiency in SolidWorks is required.
- Identify root causes of issues and drive corrective and preventative actions independently.
- Possess hands-on experience in areas such as machine design, fixture design, CAM-driven machines, pneumatic actuators, servos, stepper motors, dispensing valves, vision systems, sensors, ultrasonic welding, pick-and-place mechanisms, pad printing, electrical test instruments, and air-leak testers.
- Perform reverse engineering, measure and specify tooling, and create 3D models and drawings.
- Experience with high-volume fully automated production machines is preferred.
- Determine machine requirements, evaluate needs, and translate them into feasible and economical equipment solutions.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve yield, machine uptime, reduce material utilization and scrap, and minimize changeover time.
- Support process validation including IQ / OQ / PQ as needed.
- Formulate detailed project plans, manage tasks, and track progress electronically.
- Communicate concepts, challenges, and project plans effectively to all levels of the organization.

- Ability to communicate program plans, proposals, and results clearly.
Travel Requirements
Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work is performed in a clean room environment.
- May require sitting or standing for extended periods depending on the machine in use.
- Use of computer or touch screen for work order data entry is necessary.
- Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.
- At least 7 years of experience in a related field.
Work Environment
- This position operates in a professional office setting and occasionally involves work in a clean room environment.
- Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
- Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
