Through visits to the home, the Massage Therapist provides medical Massage Therapy to patients under the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver.
The Massage Therapist is responsible for identifying, assessing, planning, and implementing appropriate massage treatment plans for waiver patients to improve muscle tone, circulation, range of motion, and address physical symptoms related to their illness.
A Massage Therapist is responsible for providing relaxation or treating body pain and discomfort through physical touch and movement of a client’s muscles.
Their duties include meeting with clients to determine the type of massage they need, creating a relaxing ambiance within the home, and kneading muscles to release tension.
The therapist should be perceptive of the client's needs through spoken language, body language, and other cues to then modify their treatments accordingly.
Responsibilities :
- Uses evidence-based treatments / modalities to address patient’s needs and preferences.
- Providing timed massages to members by appointments.
- Ensures each patient is assessed and that treatment given is evaluated using evidence-based practice, including improvement of muscle tone, circulation, range of motion, and physical symptoms related to their illness.
- Guide patients through service offerings to see what massages would benefit them the most.
- Take detailed member history and note any health conditions, evaluate members to determine painful or stressed areas of the body, suggest future massage appointments and routine to members.
- Develops a Service Plan in conjunction with patient and family.
- Discusses patient suitability to receive massage therapy treatment with the referring medical professionals and other members of the child's Care Team as needed.
- Acts as the patient’s advocate in relation to Massage Therapy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (as designated by New York State) :
Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
Experience Required :
- Minimum of three years working with the medically fragile population AND
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience with pediatric population
- Preferred : involving end-of-life care
