Job Description Summary
Meduflex is the inpatient Float Pool at MUSC. Our primary focus is coverage for callouts and extended leaves of absence. We offer 10 different zones providing patient care for Adult and Pediatric units at all four locations downtown : University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, the Institute of Psychiatry, and Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.
As a Registered Nurse II in the Adult Critical Care Zone, you will float between the Surgical Trauma Burn ICU, Cardiac ICUs, Medical and Surgical ICUs, and if needed you may float to Intermediate floors in both the Main Hospital and Ashley River Tower Hospital.
Specific to the Meduflex Team, we offer a float differential based on FTE.

Hours per week : Vary based on preference, nights (waitlist for days)
- 15 FTE : 1-12 hour shift / 2 weeks
- 3 FTE : 1-12 hour shift / week
- 6 FTE : 2-12 hour shifts / week
- 75 FTE : 2-12 hour shifts / week one & 3-12 hour shifts / week two
- 9 FTE : 3-12 hour shifts / week
Up to $10k sign-on bonus for full-time position with a 2-year service agreement for external candidates who have a minimum of 2-years of Adult Critical Care experience.
Job Summary / Purpose : The Registered Nurse II-Float Team reports to the Nurse Manager in Adult Critical Care. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process;
delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
Minimum Training and Education : Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to initiate education for BSN within 2 years and complete within four years of hire date.
Employees are required to sign an agreement regarding the education requirement.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations : Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR / AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Some positions require certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
