2026 Co-Op - Manufacturing Controls Engineer

Work Arrangement : Onsite. This role is categorized as onsite; successful candidates are expected to report to an assigned facility on a full-time basis. Locations available include Flint, MI; Lansing, MI; Arlington, TX; Detroit, MI; Buffalo, NY; Marion, IN; Rochester, NY. Please indicate your location interests in the application.

The Role

We are seeking Electrical Engineer Co-ops to perform hands-on work that can contribute directly to the company goals. Responsibilities include control systems engineering and electrical support for programs, leading electrical projects across multiple plant areas including operations improvements, and supporting periodic repairs. The role provides technical guidance to support personnel and skilled trades.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate system and equipment problems and provide technical guidance in problem resolution
  • Conduct machine failure root cause analysis and problem solving
  • Utilize statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems
  • Analyze product, process and technology to determine optimal methods of manufacture
  • Develop cost estimates, investment forecasts, business cases, appropriation requests and plans for minor projects
  • Develop and supervise planning timetables and project schedules
  • Coordinate with area manufacturing engineers on process and equipment planning (model change, throughput, sourcing, etc.)
  • Support GMS and Quality Network implementation initiatives
  • Programming of manufacturing technology (PLC, HMI, Robotics, etc.)
  • Assist maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of niche equipment

Necessary Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Must be graduating between August 2026 and May 2029
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Willing to work in a plant environment
  • Enrolled in a co-op program at your university
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership demonstrated in studies, activities or service organizations
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, especially synthesizing large data sets into actionable insights
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with timelines and goals
  • Willingness to ask questions, take initiative, and be resourceful
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
  • Compensation

  • Salary : $5,300 per month, dependent on degree
  • One-time lump sum taxable stipend for eligible students selected for the 2026 Student Program
