SUMMARY
The Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing multiple engagement programs to meet a variety of physical and cognitive needs with a balance of productive, leisure, self-care, restorative and spiritual activities all while recognizing individuality and well-being of each resident and adhering to the strict standards of Orchard Senior Living's philosophy of care.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have prior experience within the senior care industry
- Must successfully clear a background check, TB skin test or x-ray, and health screening
- Current CPR certification
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Current certificate of training for successful completion of the five (5) hour initial fire safety training provided by the Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures ability-based opportunities are available to the residents for socialization, personal growth, exercise, community integration, spiritual development, recreation and performance improvement
- Executes Activity Programs created by the Engagement Director containing a balanced mixture of activities addressing cognitive, recreational, and activity of daily living (ADL) needs
o Cognitive activities include, but are not limited, to arts, crafts, storytelling, poetry readings, writing, music, reading, discussion, reminiscences, and reviews of current events
o Recreational activities include all socially interactive activities, such as board games and cards, and physical exercises -Pet Therapy is encouraged
o Self-care ADLs include cleaning, dusting, cooking, gardening, and yard work-Residents must be allowed to perform self-care ADLs as a long as they are able to promote independence and self- worth
- Successfully implements the activity calendar on a daily basis
- Work with residents who choose not to participate in a large group activities to provide at least one small group or one-on-one activity per day
- Review each resident's medical and social history, preferences, and dislikes, in determining appropriate activities for the resident- Activities will be tailored to the residents' unique requirements and skills
- Encourages client and family participation in activities of daily living to increase their independence and self-esteem
- Trains, mentors and directs staff in facilitating activities
- Plans quarterly in-house events that promote family, joy and socialization
- Develops a monthly professional newsletter that is distributed to residents and mailed to recipients by the first day of each month
- Directs, supervises and provides training for the community memory care program
- Schedules outside entertainment to come to the community for the residents' enjoyment
- Enrolls and coordinates volunteers to assist residents, offer special programs and provide additional support to the overall activities program
- Completes initial activities questionnaire with new residents and / or families to identify interests, talents, hobbies, spiritual preferences and social needs
- Budgetary responsibilities include reviewing financial and budget transactions, assisting with budget development, and budgetary control in relation to the activities department
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training engagement assistants and driver; planning assigning and directing work;
apprising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems
- Takes a leadership role in decorating and celebrating major holidays, including but not limited to Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, July 4th, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, December Holidays, New Year's and resident birthdays
- Ensures that residents of all religious preferences are enabled to celebrate their specific holidays
- Ensures that activity / multipurpose rooms are neat, inviting and appealing to residents, family members and guests

- Attends regularly scheduled department meetings
- Responsible for maintaining all continuing education and training requirements for position
- Attends and participates in onsite training and continuing education as required
- Participates in safety program, as requested
- Cooperates to investigate employee injuries
- Promotes and support safety awareness and implement safety operations
- Encourages staff to make suggestions on safety practices
- Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with, Executive Director, department directors and associates
- Participates in orientation of new employees
- Participates in volunteer orientations, training and education as requested
- Maintains appropriate communication with the Executive Director
- Remains updated and communicates state regulation changes to all associates
- Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations (i.e. OSHA)
- Participates in the risk management programs
- Demonstrates the ability to be innovative and creative and have patience, high energy and resourcefulness in problem solving
- Assists as requested by the Executive Director in a dining room during resident meal times to ensure residents have a positive experience
- Participates in the Manager on Duty (MOD) rotation
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and flexible hours when necessary to meet the needs of our residents
- Follows Professional Dress Code policies as outlined in the employee handbook for community and department specific standards
- Only when necessary, uses cell phone solely for conducting Orchard business in common areas of the community; otherwise follows Orchard Phone Policy.
